Has any one tried it with an apple remote cable, does it work?

Well... I think the remote would be connected to the dock, which itself would be used to transport the digital signal to the dac. So... I don't think that'd be doable

Sorry I should have worded my question. Will the audio signal transfer perfectly through it using an apple remote cable. I tried with my Denon ah-d7100 connected to an audinst amp-hp and the sound was muted as if there was no clean connection to the amp. Thanks.

Doubt it...

I wound up springing for a Sony PHA-1. Curiosity simply got the better of me. I have to hear and compare the Sony and Fostex for myself.

No the apple remote cable does not work with either of these products.

Impressions!? I was interested in the comparison, but I just don't have faith that Sony has a quality product here. The product has been out in Japan/China for quite sometime, and from what I've read it hasn't received the best reviews. That, coupled with the fact that the PHA-1 has an output impedance of 10ohms, I opted to pass because I mainly use my portable setup with IEMs/CIEMs.

I thought the HP-P1 has the same output impedance?

I plan on using it with my new CIEMs.

It does, precisely why I sold it. Wasn't the best match with CIEMs. Both are not the right picks IMO if you are using IEMs/CIEMs. Don't get me wrong it won't sound bad, and will more than likely sound better than an ipod w/ an amp, but if you really want to get high quality sound, I would look into other options.

Yes the hpp1 has an output impedance of around 10ohms.

Sound will come through, but the controls will not work. What is the point of having a apple remote cable, if you don't intend to use the intended purpose?

I know it sounds strange...I have a Denon Ah-d 7100 and the only 3.5 cable included is a apple remote cable. If I could find a custom made one I would get that but I cant find one.

Would adding another amp later help?

If I am not mistaken then the line out from the HP-P1 bypasses the amp on board right?

Which is strange because I get very high volume from the line out.

Yes adding an amp with a lower output impedance would bypass the amp section of the HP-P1. It will sound much better with say an ALO Rx MK 2, JDS C5, Arrow 4G... just to name a few. Of course that also adds bulk, but if you don't mind I would recommend doing so.
