DX50 a new smaller DAP from iBasso. Spec. page 1. Impressions start on page. . . - Page 63

I think the 2nd Tiers should be the Ivy League and vice versa, cause in this day and age nobody should be paying more than $400 for a DAP. If there are any 2nd tier players (in your list) that cost more, boot it out too.

They are:

  • iBasso DX100 (aging reference best sounded DAP),
  • iBasso HDP-R10 (face-lifted with longer batter,
  • HiFiman HM-901 (the best sound or poor in build quality)
  • iRiver AK1200 (the most expensive & elegant)
  • Colofly C4 (againg & no firmware upate)
  • Fiio X5 (soon, it is a black horse)

There other one I would call it as " 2nd Tiers"
They are:

  • Fiio X3  (great sound & great price)
  • iRiver AK100 (the best sound but most expensive)
  • Hisound Nova 3
  • HiFiman HM-60X series
  • Colorfly C3+C&CBH (great sound but a lot of limitation)
  • iBasso DX50 (soon, it is a black horse)

Fiio had already changed the landscape of Hi-Fi DAP with the release of X3, low price but hi-fi quality which is almost on par in term of SQ with 3X more expensive DAP in the market.

Most probably Fiio will make a history again when they will release the reference DAP-X5 by end of this year.

Let's wait & see.

I am also sure they will bring the SQ and build quality of high end daps while keeping the price understandable. DX50 seems to have a different purpose than its big brother, price wise, most probably it will be on par with X5 or around, but SQ wise and good pairings, I think they will have some differences.

Looks like the screen will be a IPS screen for the DX50. They have already upgraded some aspects. Looks like this will be a very nice piece of equipment.

We all have high hopes for this device. Ibasso learned a lot from DX100, that should help them a lot.

Waiting for this to come out is a royal pain. Plus, not knowing the price as well mad.gif

Well, I wouldn't want to be in iBasso's shoes right now.

I am a fan of the DX100, in spite of it's pros and cons.

Therefore, I am optimistic that the DX50 may punch well for it's price-point.

However, it must be rather an awkward situation for iBasso because they are releasing before Fiio's X5, and they know damn well that Fiio will be looking to beat the DX50 on price-performance ratio. So how do iBasso decide upon a price point that will give them the best chance of not being beaten by the X5 when the X5 is released a few months later? Tricky! rolleyes.gif blink.gif

Well, we need less support for iBasso so they will think twice about pushing for a high price knowing their fans will pay biggrin.gif

heheh!

Seriously, though, iBasso would be really stupid to push the price high. Really stupid. Everyone knows people are going to be flipping coins to choose between DX50 and X5. If iBasso charge too much for the DX50, they just make the choice too easy for everyone to buy the X5 instead.

It will have the same type and size screen as the AK100. It will have line out, which the AK100 doesn't have and I will bet , from the sound of the D42, it will sound better. So if people buy the AK100 for 6 to 7 hundred, why wouldn't people buy the DX50 for some change if it out performs the AK100? I personally think though, they will hit a sweet spot on the pricing.

I did not own all of them but I have listened them in shops or from my friends except X3, Nova 3, HDP-R10, HM-901 and those unreleased products.

So what about you?

Me?

I follow the head-fi rule of only talking about products that have actually listened to.

how can you say/write that X3 and 901 have `great sound` when you have never listened to them?
