The quality of the mids and highs are just as important as the bass, but without a solid bass giving a "foundation" to the music then it just sounds wrong, thin etc... Unfortunately once you get to the point that you demand high quality bass, mids and treble, this is where things start to get expensive tongue_smile.gif Even if headphones have amazing bass, if the mids and highs are not good then they would not be keepers for me.... Would like to hear some more reviews of these before possibly importing them from japan

Budget?

Denon D600 - $250ish used
M-Audio Q40 - $115ish (tho stock needs a couple tweaks to be comfy)
Ultrasone Pro900 - $275ish - may have best bass out there

I have all three, love then all.

I didn't say the JVC because I haven't heard them.  I try not to recommend stuff I have no idea how they sound.

The D600 is more comfy than the Pro900 - that said, you do a HD650 headband mod on the Pro900 (do a search for the thread) and they are pretty much as comfy.  The pads on the D600 are sumptuous.  Deep and so soft.  That said, I'm experimenting with using Alpha pads (from Mr Speakers) on the Pro900 this week when they arrive - a few guys used JMoney pads (a dude who used to make and sell pads) on them apparently to great success, so I'm doing the same with the Alpha pads.  Not that the Pro900 pads are bad, in fact I think they are just fine but if I can get even more comfort and MORE BASS (which some say it gets better because the isolation increases and "traps" the bass) then why not.  If it doesn't please me I'll just use the pads on my D2000 or Q40.

Too bad this thread died :/ The price for the SZ2000 is now down to 24000 yen on amazon.

seems like the train has come to a stop :O

The train might pick up again now that the price has gone down and is more competitive.

They wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy over killed it. LMAO deadhorse.gif

Maybe when i can get them shipped for like $200 i might try them, but they seem heavy as hell and not really portable so..... wish they just did a slightly bigger over-ears version of the S500s but with detachable cables, etc. Oh well.
