My new love. Rane HC6s professional headphones amp

This amp is amazing.  It's quiet, dynamic sounding and powerful.  Look at the specs!  Most modern amps that cost two times more don't have specs like these.  Noticed the output impedance?  yes, that's 0.25 Ohms.  BTW, it's been around for 30 years and is still in production.

Here's my overview and review on the HC6s.  I really enjoyed this amp.  I'm gonna see if I can buy the review unit. :)

That's not too shabby for something listed at $420 USD (though it's $520 in Canada, ugh).

What's the difference between the HC6 and HC6S? Any chance you can crack it open and gives us a look at the circuitry?

I'll try to bust it open since I now own it.  I decided to buy the review unit because I couldn't let it go. :)

Cool. I'm curious to see what it has inside.

Very interesting product. I was able to pull up internals of the hc6 which looks really good. Really remind me of some of Justin's headamp amps which is a good thing. So the hc6s should look even better. Looking over the schematics it seams the stereo 1/4in output can also double as single balanced 1/4in outputs since the main inputs are balanced. Here's a couple low rez pic of the basic hc6.

Hifiguy528, just for my own curiosity, are you affiliated with rane? I was on their website checking it out, went to their product page which have a click to see video link. Went I clicked on it, it was yours. Just wondering if you're affiliated with them in some sort of way.

I would assume his affiliation is as reviewer, since he did say he got a review unit, so presumably they linked to his video as soon as it went up. It looks like there's a decent amount of power filtering on the right side there. Can't make out any sort of transformer though.

With a gain of +20dB, that's roughly a 10x voltage gain. If one were feeling adventurous, you could rig up a balanced setup with the proper adapters.

I was just asking out of curiosity, wasn't implying anything. As for the absence of a transformer, it uses an external power supply. Still a very interesting unit with great looking internals(hc6), so imagine the hc6s internals look even more impressive.

I would like to know the differences between the two since the hc6 can be had for less than 200.00. I'm sure it's the older discontinued version, but would like to what what improvements they made with the newer version.

Judging from this picture, I'm assuming the HC6s has the power supply inside... http://www.rane.com/jpg/hc6sch.jpg

I'm curious what other changes there are.

Yes, it appears so. I see that as an upgrade since the original uses an adapter.

I didn't know that. Thanks for the heads up.  Other than reviewing it, I don't have any affiliation with Rane.  I am a huge fan of their mixers and Serato software.  I bought the HC6s review sample because I love how it sounds.  I just want more people to know about it and give it a try.  It is under priced IMO for it's performance.

Any chance you've had a moment to take some pics/video of the insides?

I'm curious if there's been any update on impressions or pics for this thing.
