Need some advice on new headphones

Hi guys,

Basically I'm looking for a new pair of headphones, I'm going to be using them on the go a lot so ill need them to not leak a lot of noise, pref over ear headphones. My budget is around £70-80, I listen to a lot of electronic music, Dubstep, electro house etc. I'd like a pair that don't look ridiculous. I know next to nothing about decent headphones but I can say for sure after listening to my friends 'Wesc chambers' I'm not willing to spend that amount of cash on an inferior product, would appreciate any help you guys can give me, cheers.

I'd get Audio Technica ATH-ES55, available from places like Richer Sounds

great, flat sound, and nice looks too

a real bargain IMHO

Let me be honest with you: The reason they ignored your thread is precisely for what you're looking in a pair of headphones. Every headphone will suit your needs because your main concern is not sound quality, tone balance, imaging, soundstage, etc. Make a list using amazon.co.uk and later post the models you're interested and you'll get better responses.

I've been looking at quite a few pairs of headphones, but there seems to be minor problems with each pair. I've been looking at the Sony MDR V6's, I really like the look of those but i can see the coiled cable being a major issue for me, its huge and bulky and would be quite annoying in my pocket. Another pair i was looking at are the Creative Aurvana Live's, i read in reviews that they can be quite fragile and i tend to be awful when it comes to looking after headphones so i would like some decent build quality. Another pair was the AKG 518DJ's nice style but i could also see the 2 wire cable bothering me and would much rather prefer a singular one.

Can anyone else make some suggestions as so far everything i come across seems to have at least one issue that bothers me.

I don't have personal experience with these models, but off the top of my head have you considered the following (which all receive high regard and seem to match your criteria):

Koss pro DJ 100
AKG K181 (single corded big brother of the K518)
ATH M50S (or the cheaper M30?)

You could also check out the JVC HA-S500. I've just ordered a pair myself.

I'll keep thinking and post some further recommendations later

Thanks for the suggestions buddy, the AKG K181 is a bit over my budget but the Koss Pro DJ 100's have definitely caught my eye. I'll have a look at some reviews and research them a little! Do you have any idea how the ATH M30's sound quality compares to other headphones in that price range? I've heard awesome things about the M50's its just a shame they are over my budget.

After further research i'm really torn between Audio Technica ATH-WS55i and the Creative Aurvana Live's, if anyone has experience of both of these could you help push me towards one of these pairs? I also really like the Beyerdynamic DTX 501P but there isn't many reviews on them.

one other suggestion would he the Numark PHX Pro.

Joker rates them highly (http://www.head-fi.org/t/433318/shootout-107-portable-headphones-reviewed-astrotec-as-100hd-as-200hd-added-12-02-12), and they can be picked up for about 45 quid (UK)
