SE535 to JH16...thoughts and inputs needed - Page 6

There's room for disagreement here and I wouldn't prefer every custom to every universal either but you don't have to look any further than Joker's comparison chart. He's tried almost all the expensive universals yet his top 4 rated IEMs are all custom.

Customs are not all that superior. Though the new freqphase JH16 from what I heard is not as bass heavy as described by that guy. Vocal imaging is thin and lacking which is very true, same with the JH13. In fact the whole balance of JH audio earphone is questionable despite the high praise you often see on this forum. I personally think Westone's take on westone 4 is almost perfect in terms of balance.

?????

Thats weird and I have never heard anyone say vocals are thin on the 13's or 16's.  Thats a complete first.

Vocals are not thin, but upper mids generally are somehow recessed and overshadowed by midbass on the 16's if you are listening to a concert. Might not be the case with the 13's.

by saying thin, I mean the vocal imaging is not as solid as, say, 1+2. The vocal tend to melt into the background and stay inline with instrument. It lacks an clear outline, if you know what I mean. You'll notice if you compare these to big cans like HD800, HD700.

JH16 has very neutral mids, not forward or recessed imo.

havent heard the 1+2 so i cant speak for it but the 13's sound solid.... compared to the 600, 650, t50rps.... havent had long sessions with the 800 or 700 though.

In my experience, the JH13s mids were not recessed compared to the HD 800's. In fact I preferred the former.

If I wanted enhanced/forward mids, I have my W3000ANVs for that. That doesn't mean the JH13s do it wrong.

That's very strange then. Both my old jh13 and new jh16's vocals are not as good as my hd700 out of dx100. Might just be my own problem. I prefer my w4 and f111's vocal.
I've just listened to the 3000s lately, beautiful vocal for both male and female, a bit too dominating though.
Again I enjoy the he-500 and lcd3 vocals the most.

no bud I haven't. I am going to go to one of the meet ups and listen to as many headphones as possible.

ATM I am thinking of building my own amp for fun.

Sorry about the super late reply, my classes took over my life and right now in another week or so my summer one class is starting again.

crap i ordered a month too soon.  Just for memorial day, JH Audio is giving out a 15% discount!  It's been a month, but I gotta wait another month because their turn around time is 35 days...BUSINESS DAYS!!

The wait is so long that that those who buy now will have to wait until christmas to get their iems.  It's good to see that jh audio is still getting good business though lolz.

OK. You should listen and be open to lots of headphones.

Building an amp? That sounds interesting. Tell me how it goes.

That is a ridiculous amount of time considering that companies like UE takes 14 business days. I think it's worth it for JH buyers to pay for expedited process.

Innerfidelity has a nice multi reviewer take on customs. Do a search. All liked the jh13 and noted that it has somewhat enhances bass. They generally found the jh16 overdone but if you like ie800s, you won't. When I compared the 1+2 to the current fp jh13, the kmds were more recessed on the 1+2 tough I enjoyed it very much.
