I'm interested in the Annies and K712 as well but so far I haven't seen enough information comparing them. The K712 is still pretty new, I'm sure a lot more people will be able to give impressions on the Annies vs. K712 in time. Hopefully soon...

The specs and designs are the same.  Putting orange one one and blue on another and calling something else doesn't make it a different headphone.  I'd just like to know the facts of one vs the other.  I don't know anything but what an employee of AKG has told me today.  Would just like to know if it's an upgrade or not?

Did you expect them to say, "they are the same as the K702 - just like the Annie model was too - and we just decided to change colors once again and charge $200 more"?

Well i expect at least a BS version of that!  something like "We had a cosmetic change and a model number change but the headphone is still $499 retail"  Something?

Yeah, they are different headphonds. One has blue, the other has orange. The rep is technically not lying to you. smily_headphones1.gif

So according to another trusted source (a dealer) the drivers are the same and there is a slight difference in sensitivity.  Not sure why AKG wants to play games like this with it's customers? Weird....

That seems physically impossible...

I think another good example is the comparison between different-impedance Beyerdynamic drivers; They seem the same, but they fundamentally must have some changes to accommodate each impedance level. This CAN impact the sound, but whether or not it is a significant change is another question entirely.

I do wish AKG would be a bit more forward with us about these things.

Yeah, now that you mention it....

They're both listed at 62 ohms impedance and 105 dB sensitivity so unless those specs are wrong I would think they'd be the same in that regard.

There is no difference it's just marketing the same product over and over again....dissapointing AKG!

I admit, it's getting ridiculous. They could simply just call it something like 'K702b' or something. That way people understand that it's still the same headphone with tweaks, like pads that add bass and better headband). No need to saturate their line with new and confusing model numbers (which make people think it's all new).

AKG has to milk those drivers for even longer. Just wait for the Q712 to come out.

But if they do that it'd be hard to charge $300 more from the now established street price of the "old" model...

Sennheiser has had the HD600 and HD650 in their lineup almost unchanged for years and they control the pricing.  I think it's just dishonest to re-sell the same product over and over again....

It's very easy to find out, but, folks who have several K models, just ignore to jump in and tell, or, they just don't want to start an argue war, I dont know.

Anyway, if somebody inside EU who owns K712 Pro and don't mind send them to me, let me know please. I kept K702 after I compared them to Anniversary model not that long ago, so, just don't want to spend another EUR 400 to find out the same.

Well my source sent another email saying he was going to check on what other "differences" there may be.  But I am telling you, if you blow a driver in the K701, Q701, K702, K702-65th or this new K712Pro you get exactly the same driver unit!

In my opinion this is getting ridiculous. Whats the big deal? Did AKG ever claim that each headphone has different drivers? No, in fact, every time they DID answer a customer mail, they said they're the same drivers. They even always claimed K701 and Q701 are identical. So I don't understand whats the need for all this complication.... K701, Q701 and K702 are identical in everything but color and K701 not having a removable cable.  K702 65 and K712 are identical in everything except the color scheme. All of them are identical apart from K702 and K712 having thinner and softer ear pads which warm up the sound and add some bass.  They even claim on their own they're improved the bass by making it 3db louder.

So, nobody is being unfair, nobody is robbing anyone, and nobody is forcing anyone to buy their headphones.

The problem here is, people on head-fi tend to be so obsessed with buying something new they know in their head, before ever trying the headphone, how its going to sound.  People started talking about what the K712 will sound, how it should sound, how it shouldn't sound, and whether its going to be different or the same as K701/2 before anyone ever heard a pair. Its ridiculous. If you don't like the headphone, don't buy them.

This philosophy of "oh my god, they came out with a new headphone, I already have one that is most likely identical, but i'm gonna buy a new one anyway, and then whine because if its not any different" that certain people go by (not pointing at anyone) is really getting funny.
