In my opinion this is getting ridiculous. Whats the big deal? Did AKG ever claim that each headphone has different drivers? No, in fact, every time they DID answer a customer mail, they said they're the same drivers. They even always claimed K701 and Q701 are identical. So I don't understand whats the need for all this complication.... K701, Q701 and K702 are identical in everything but color and K701 not having a removable cable. K702 65 and K712 are identical in everything except the color scheme. All of them are identical apart from K702 and K712 having thinner and softer ear pads which warm up the sound and add some bass. They even claim on their own they're improved the bass by making it 3db louder.
So, nobody is being unfair, nobody is robbing anyone, and nobody is forcing anyone to buy their headphones.
The problem here is, people on head-fi tend to be so obsessed with buying something new they know in their head, before ever trying the headphone, how its going to sound. People started talking about what the K712 will sound, how it should sound, how it shouldn't sound, and whether its going to be different or the same as K701/2 before anyone ever heard a pair. Its ridiculous. If you don't like the headphone, don't buy them.
This philosophy of "oh my god, they came out with a new headphone, I already have one that is most likely identical, but i'm gonna buy a new one anyway, and then whine because if its not any different" that certain people go by (not pointing at anyone) is really getting funny.
