They aren't designed to be either.

m100, k70x, or whatever, they are desiged to be more reference sounding, analytical. classical music is undenyable their best trick. I can enjoy edm on ad700, that doesn't mean edm sound best on them. without enhanced bass, you are missing the point of edm. try going to a club to see what real edm is-it's not what edm is ALL about, but it's a vital part that home audiophiles don't get to experience.

You're working hard to keep me entertained -- thanks a lot :-)

M-100 'more reference sounding'? Yes, than LP1 -- which is not that hard. Otherwise not so much.

'spend more time outside stuck to only one headphone' -- I'm content to say that this is not one of my primary concerns ;-)

I think you may experience some good club sound systems in the future... Due to my work I've seen and heard enough good (and bad) installations.

IMO you're still caught in the trap "more == better". That will ease over time. Or maybe not.

I think we can end the discussion at this point: its meaningless. Have fun.

omg!!!!!!!

i can't believe i hesitated and thought nobody would bid this. with 7 people bidding i should have been more careful. some bastard took it from my last minute bid of 173 $ easily from me since I was such a coward to raise it 10$ or something so I can have room for breathe,

the most irritating thing is, he took it from me at a 2$ difference.

what, the , heck.

the only reason I hesitated, was because this particular one is pretty beat up. akg gold label almost all gone, headband looks like a nanny's forehead. dusty as well. seller says at least 4-5 years of usage.

oh well, i have 7 akg cans, enough is enough. maybe next time when there is no douchebags bumping prices up from 30 bucks to 175.

Someone a few weeks ago was selling one here. Not sure if it ever sold. I had one once and it took me about a year to find outside of Ebay. I paid quite a lot more than most would since it was nearly mint and had the original box and extra pads.

You could also instead find a K400. It sounds quite similar to the K501 but has maybe a little more treble. I prefer the K400 to the K501. They usually go for $100 and are a steal if it's good condition. I like mine but it's not really any better than my Q701, just different. I need to really get some K601 pads for it since it's rather thin sounding at times without them.

There shouldn't be any problem to sell a pair of k501 in good condition. If the price is right of course.wink.gif

Honestly I think that price is pretty high considering the condition of the unit. I would say maybe $150 for a unit in very good condition overall. The K501 died off some time ago simply because it wasn't popular. When that one person posted a glowing review, interested suddenly took off. It provides a "different" sound from K601 and K701, but not necessarily a better sound.

Keep in mind with ebay auctions if you had a bid of $173 and another person bids $350, the price doesn't jump to $350, it goes to the incremented $173. So their actual bid may have been much higher.

nope, 175 is the final one. they can do it you see? they bidded at the last literal second. so, there was no way for me to beat him. had i put just another auto bid worth of increase on the max bid, it would have been mine.

You don't understand. Even if they bid at the last second, his bid could've been $300. So even if you bid a micro-second before the end of the auction, unless you bid over that hypothetical $300, you wouldn't have won unless your bid was higher than his highest MAX bid (which again, could've been something like $300, even though on the page it ended at $175).

I definitely understand the "last second bid". However, if your maximum bid for an item is $100, and someone bids $1000 with 2 seconds left, the final selling price is NOT $1000. It is $100 + some increment (probably something like $102).

I was bidding on an item yesterday that was going something like $18. I accidentally typed in $2000 from my phone. The final selling price was $21 or so, not the $2000 i spastically typed into my phone.

Lol, $2000. I would've cried if it reached that high.

Now after a burning in period about 90 hours, I play'd my mostfull bassheavy music I have (big asian drums - with D7000 blows air between pads and ears trough) -
track 1 and 9
with K712 the drums seems a bit bigger, deeper, powerful, punchy as with Q701
mids an highs seems me very similar to the Q701.

Before this CD I heared "Bettina Wegner, Die Liebeslieder" - at this music this extended bass is hearable, but hard to detect.
Mids an highs seems me very similar to the Q701. With K712 (and this music) sometimes I have the feeeling a little bit more detailed but in cross check are not surely detectable - my imagination?

The specified AKG increase in the low bass of +3 dB should be real available. Unfortunately I do not have measuring equipment to be able to measure the exact.
