Anyone know where to get replacement cables in the UK, will any AKG with the three pin work.

Got my Ultrasone replacements from these nice people, this will do yes, unless anyone knows where to get the orange one from.

Ebay.

Looks nice to me.  Plus it's not ridiculously long for home use.  I can't think of any situation where I need a 3m cable.  If I'm that far away, that's what speakers are for.  Plus you got the coiled cable still that's plenty long.

I did see a few cables on there, are Chinese cables to be trusted. I have a Little Dot amp so I know they can make decent stuff but I wouldn't want to end up buying a boot lace. Actually everything I own is made in China, best start learning mandarin.

Cables are made with copper wires soldered to some plugs.  Honestly, you think it matters who solders 3 wires to some plugs?  Do you think the copper wire they use is worse than what AKG headphones come with?  OFC is OFC.

If you're looking for a replacement cable with free shipping with a length more reasonable, can't go wrong with that.  That's my opinion.

Or you can learn to do it yourself.  Just order some cable from some audio store, plugs and solder it yourself.

I don't know why, but I found them "harder" to listen to, if this makes any sense. They didn't sound anywhere like the HD650s. More like the K550, but with more bass/lower mids.

The upper mids(2-3khz) can sound a bit brash on some systems. It is a dark headphone with a peak around 9-10khz. It reminds me of the AKG K240 Studios sound signature but darker. The HD 650 is a very different sounding headphone and one I plan on getting. I mainly use the K712 for electronic, gaming, movie watching, and the like, but sometimes I like it with most other genres as well. I prefer my K612 for a neutral and more natural sound signature and acoustic, classical, rock, metal, some electronic, etc.

I've never purchased that cable, but definitely S SandDigital makes a really good point. It's easy for new people involved in audio to get caught up in cables and things like that. Don't end up spending the same amount of money on a cable that you did on a headphone.

Also, if you open up the AKG K501, K601, K612, K701, K702, Q701, or K712 you would understand how silly it is to buy an "upgraded" cable.

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased the K712s (about a couple of months ago) and bought a Schiit Vali to go along with them. I loved the pairing at first but now, for some reason, the Vali seems to make the K712s sound kind of muffled. I'm not really sure exactly how to describe the way they sound but they seem to lose some detail when I use the Vali.

Anyways, I'm looking to upgrade. Right now I'm using a Sound Blaster Omni along with the Vali for gaming purposes. I'm not sure if such a thing exists, but I would like to find an amp/DAC that pairs well with the K712s, is under $300, has an optical input for the DAC and also has an RCA input for just using the amp. Both optical and RCA are preferred because my SB Omni has an optical out and I also want to use it with my Astro Mixamp for gaming on console.

I've searched for such a thing for a while and can't seem to find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I get a bit of a muffled sound(a slight fuzz and haze to the sound) on the K712(as well as other headphones) with the stock tubes on my EF2A, tube rolling to some Siemens tubes made all my headphones crystal clear sounding though with good dynamics and detail. It's likely the tubes used in the Vali that are the culprit of the muffled sound.

I'm personally going to upgrade my amp sometime. I'm not really sure what to suggest as an amp/dac combo that has both optical input and RCA input.

If you guys think the K712 is muffled then just get a Q701 I guess. There is no clear winner for me personally.

Found this one on the UK EBay site, looks nice, can choose your own colour and length as well which is nice.

My 712's just came in the mail about 2 hours ago. At first I was very disappointed as they sounded bland and muffled but I gave them a chance and kept listening. As time went on they began to open up a bit and then I realized I just needed to turn up the volume a bit. I am used to DT770 250ohm cans and I was worried that with a 62ohm can the Lyr may be to much so I kept the volume down. But when you send these things some juice they really open up. I'm beginning to like them more and more but I can't wait until my new tubes come in so I can really see how they'll perform.

i got the akg k240 mk2

anyone know how do the k702 65th and k712 compare in bass, mids, body to the k240 mk2?

The price of the AKG k712s have been dropping recently on Amazon; now they are for sell at around $350.00.

I am waiting to see if the price drops further before purchasing my pair. I wish I could predict if the price will drop even further soon.

Better to buy what you want, and if they drop immediately after ask Amazon for the difference. I doubt they will go much lower than $350.

Well, I have read that they have been sold previous on Amazon for $320-$330. I would be nice to use the savingsto buy another game on Steam/ or music. I can wait a bit longer until I make the purchase; why not wait until at least Sunday/Monday to see if the price drops further? It is not going to be shipped any faster with Amazon Prime during the weekend at this point.
