I already know the t90 will be bright. I don't hate bright hp's. again I was just saying its bright compared to an hd650 and and in general it is a bright hp. bright does not equal bad. Just that some may think the sen is boring because of its speed, decay, and rolled off treble.

I consider the k545 to be a bright hp too. As well as the he500 a tad bright ( but really balanced and just right). The x1 to be neutral. Lcd2 dark.
Anyway I have exhausted this topic.

I know a bright hp when I hear one.

Peace!

Can't wait to hear how you like the T90s.

I have a hunch you'll like them more than the K712, which sound much more tame and laid back. I kinda miss the clarity and the way the T90s presented music in an enveloping manner. Slightly warm, excellent bass, airy treble.

The K712 is a smooth beast though. Can't complain, definitely an improvement over the Q701. Soundstage is noticeably back to modded K701 levels, and the bass is much more balanced than the Q701.

Anyone has tried BASS mod on K712? :)

Does it affect low-mids or just bass slightly stronger?

Actualy I find bass enough on K712, very balanced and full sounding headphone. Maybe a little more sub-bass would be superb!

I tried it.

I think it mainly affects low bass, but it's hard to be 100% sure as you can't A-B compare it quickly.  The most noticeable difference I heard was slightly more low end rumble.  I thought it made some of the mids very slightly less full sounding - but that was hardly noticeable and hardly worth mentioning.  Whether it needs the mod or not is also somewhat debatable IMO, as the K712 already has pretty balanced bass already.

If your comfortable opening them up it wouldn't hurt to try it though.  You can always reverse it.

Hi, thanks, very fast response ;p

Sounds like it's not like day vs. night difference, hardly noticable.

I'm not planning to do this mod as I'm still burning in my K712 and like it as is, just curious :)

Thanks for the luck it worked:beyersmile:...brighter(we agree there) but so far less genre specific, more cohesive, and louder(all right out of my iMac with no amp or DAC). The k712 has its things it does a lot better probably but its just a different cup of tea. Whoever said it was hollow lied. The instruments have a similar size to them as the k712 but have a more enveloping sound.

The k712 doesn't have bad bass by the way just less impact than the hd650 but with more sub bass and better texture. I was surprised that it had more texture than the k550 and k545.

only hoping the bass to improve with a good amp. Not as bad as I heard people saying though plus I cant comment on them too fast I have yet to figure the bass out.

Certainly more bass than the K712's I'm hearing right now :0

k712 does have a more natural balance though but you can't eq cohesiveness, clarity, and soundstage.

Does anyone listen to EDM on these (Trance, House etc.) ? How does this Genre match with the K712's ?

if you want the bass in the those genre. the K712 wont do the justice, but the X1 will. but if you just need right amount of bass, then the K712 may satisfy you. I'd say go for the K712/ 702/65 if you listen to almost all genre of music :)

I listen to psytrance and electro with them every night. You'd want a bass boost of some sort. With the bass boosted they sound really good with psytrance.

Posting over here even though I have the Annies, since this seems to be currently the most active K/Q/K701/2/12 thread...

I recently bought an K702 anniversary and can't say I really enjoy the sound with the new memory foam pads... the bass boost/warmness is too much on my rig to my ears. Definitely prefer these with the older spring foam pads on.  I have a K601 on hand right now and tried their pads, and I even like those better than the new ones... the new pads just aren't for me I guess.

But my main question here is, does anyone know anywhere in CANADA that I can buy K701/2's or Q701 pads that won't cost me an arm and a leg?  The shipping cost from most USA retailers seems to be in the league of $40 or so and for an item that costs $60~80, which I find quite ridiculous... My preference is to keep the Annies since I do like the comfort (no damn bumps on the headband!) and looks the best out of all the K/Q 7 series IMO, but I have no idea where to buy the older series pads at a reasonable price... if anyone can help out here it'd be appreciated.  Or if anyone has the pads that they can sell used here, please do shoot me a PM. Thanks!
