I Just received my pair of AKG K712 pro and I have to say that i am not a audiophile but I enjoy Music and a GOOD headphone. It is kinda of my first really nice headphones

I bought many "Gaming" headphones in the past but none of them could compare to the K712

Astro A40 "Good"
Astro A50 "Bad experience in general"
Corsair 1400 "The worst of them all"
Bose 2 of them One earpad and the other one I really could not remember the model
and before the K712 i had the Audio Technica ATH-M50

I am enjoying the AKG it is really nice headphones paired with Asus Xonar Essence STX

Congrats and happy first post!
Welcome to head-Fi... Sorry about your wallet!
It really does feel/sound good with the K's, doesn't it? Glad you're liking it much, I'm always using my tube amp but I'm switching between using my iPod Video (5th gen), Turtle Beach DSS (with the Xbox), and Sound Blaster Z, sounds good with any of these DACs :)

Would solid state or tube amps match the K712 more? I'm torn between the Vali and Magni. I know tubes are a fickle (user preference) medium, but it seems like there aren't too many technical issues with the Vali.

yeah my wallet took a big hit but I think it worth it, I am enjoying every moment of it. I use my K712 mainly with computer and now i cant afford to buy an amp but i am planing to buy a portable amp to use with my HTC one something like the Fiio E18.

I think the FiiO E12 would be better if you are satisfied with the SQ of HTC DAC :)

I am new to all of this but is the E18 better than the E12 with Android phones. Also, it seems like a better investment and future proof.

The E18 features an amp and DAC while the E12 only servers as amp ONLY. The E18 is specially designed for some of the Android smartphone but it does works with desktop/laptop as DAC / Amp. However, the E12 is much more powerful and sound better in terms of amp. It all depends on what you are looking for. If you are not happy with your HTC One DAC and you want to bypass it, go for the E18, but if you feel the HTC One only weak point is amp, you can go for the E12

Hope it helps!

Either way, I don't own a K712 Pro, but I do have a K702/65 which is said to have a similar sound signature. Loving it a lot!!!

For me, this is absolutely NOT true. I have had both to audition at home—a month with same amp (Hafler speaker amp), same HP cable (balanced), and with the original pads of each 'phone—and they are very, very different. The Anniversary is a marginally better-sounding K702. The 712 is a huge improvement over both. MUCH better bass, less nasal treble but about the same imaging and staging. Also auditioned the Q model and was more impressed with it than the Anniversary. But the Q was also no competition to the 712.

All of this, only IMHO.

Interesting to hear your opinion Mambo. My K702/65 handles treble very well, sibilance is very minimal. Bass also has a decent thump to it, but nothing earth shattering. Overall very nice balanced and even slightly warm sound. I do find it lacking a bit in detail and sound stage width though, does the 712 do better at those?
