Just noticed this new model... was hoping them to modify the headband adjustment mechanism, as the current design is so fragile..

Fully agree with you... I really have no idea how studio professionals  (for whom a K702, as an example, is supposed to be designed for) cope with the fact that the headphones are not very firm on the head, considering they are having much more movement than a home user sitting in his couch for listening.

So, if K712 is mass production of K702 65th, then price isn't that bad?

Makes me feel like my HD600:s for 250€ brand new was a steal, so these news makes me happy  biggrin.gif

Wait, wait. Wasn't the gimmick of the 65th supposed to have been that they were hand-made? So if a mass-produced version costs the same, where's the happy?

They weren't hand-made, but supposedly their drivers were hand-picked. :P

The spec sheet on the AKG site indicates the K712 will also have hand selected drivers.

I had a workmate who was at the Bose-factory in the days of the Bose 901 MkIV-loudspeakers,  he mentioned "handpicked" it was a lady holding each speaker-element up to her ear and stroking a finger around the cone perimeter. Apparently she was essential  biggrin.gif

That might explain some things about Bose sound ;-)

I fully believe them hand picking drivers, as from all the websites I have visited, AKG has been among the best in terms of driver consistency, especially in the K70x series. Aside from slight pad revisions in the K701, the K701/Q701 were incredibly consistent in their drivers in terms of frequency response.

OIf only Beyerdynamic and other companies were that critical of driver matching and tuning.

If they say the K712 Pro has hand picked drivers, I fully expect them to sound up to spec from one to another.

It's going to be incredibly disappointing if they don't make the K612 in Austria as well :(
