The AKG K712 Pro Support and Impressions Thread - Page 148

Anyone know what Gain setting I should have my Little Dot MKIII Amp at, are these 712's low or high impedance, I get confused.

Multiple people with various quality control problems in the last few pages is not encouraging. I thought these were hand picked, quality controlled etc etc Austrian engineering bells and whistles?

I think the Q701 are made in China now. I was under the impression that the K712 are still Austrian, along with the K612.

Made In Austria on the side of mine, unlike 99.9% of everything else in my home that's made in China.

No idea why they would outsource the Q701 and keep other stuff in Austria. Maybe they are going to move everything to china and are testing.

maybe some did get a "mondayphone" :-) . humans do make mistakes, machines dont. so handmade doesnt mean there are no issues. when i called the store where i bought the phones i startet with the xlr connector (i didnt mention the akg k712). they immediately asked for akg k271. so the connector problem with some of the akg headphones may be a known issue. anyway i love these headphones. never heard such a nice sound. (i have dt880/600, hd 650, akg k701, xonar essence one muses edition)

The K712 is still made in Austria. I don't think they have stated that these are handpicked though, that was the K702 Anniversary (or maybe I've missed something). Just sent mine back, yay for waiting ~2 weeks on a replacement.

Has anyone by chance compared the K172 (or modded Q701) to the Utrasone Pro 2900?
I would be VERY interested to hear your comments... cool.gif

I remember users who had the same problem with K702 anniversaries. Not sure what causes the rattling, but such defective units should be returned.

You may have convinced me to keep my annies instead of "trading up" to the k712

I have Ultrasone 2500's, I have to say the more I try other headphones the more I love my Ultrasone's, they seem to play all types of music well where as these and the Grado HF-2's play certain types better than others. I have two 300 disc players so I just spin around every type of music with reckless abandon.

Thanks for your comment stvn758.

Would you agree with this opinion:

"[...] the Pro 2900s offer even more detail than the K 701s, along with very precise imaging and a wide soundstage rivaling that of the HD 800s, as well as very good bass extension and impact.

[...]

So, even though I am inclined to the detail, wide soundstage, and accurate imaging of the K 701s, I still want to have some bass extension to feel the body of the music.[...]

they [the Pro 2900] appear to me as though they would achieve everything the K 701s do greatly, and even better, as well as provide what the K 701s lack in bass extension, impact, and sheer body.[...]"

I love the Ultrasone Soundstage, having just tried the 712's they are very open sounding but the way the Ultrasones place instruments and sounds, it sounds more deliberate for want of a better word. Whether all that happens by just putting the driver lower down, vocals are so much better I think than the 712's, voices sound very real. The Senn 800's are way out of my price league and my memories of my HD600's are quite fond, they also played everything well I recall.
