Absolutely. No doubt about it... It's a significant improvement in sound (much more balanced FR) as well as comfort. I would go for K712 Pro over LCD-2 with no hesitation.

I am considering an Asgard 2 for my K712, but is there any benefit to choosing a Lyr instead? Or, would the Lyr overpower the K712's?

DAC would be a Bifrost.

I don't think so. The Q701 can be found at half the price of the K712 right now. I think the Q701 is a much more detailed and accurate headphone. It would really come down to personal choice. If you wan't a more fun sound signature with a bass kick, go for the K712. If you're looking for more of a detailed and revealing headphone Q701.

Holdy horses. Is the K712 similar in signature to the LCD2? The LCD2 is too bass heavy/warm for my taste.

I should be receiving my AG2 that I just ordered, on Saturday. I will gladly let you know how they pair up...

As of now I have only tried the K712 with the M-Stage, iCAN, and E12. The M-Stage has been the best match, IMO, so far...

If you need the extra bass/warmth, memory foam pads and flat headband, then yes if it's about $350 or so.

For those that already have a modded or stock Q701...probably not. Maybe if you can sell your Q701.

$150 price premium over the modded Q701 is really too much for me.

It all comes down to preferences. Some may even prefer the Q701.

I still want to buy one very badly..but $380.....I'm not made out of money anymore. I know that's pocket change for some of you.

Perfect! I can't wait.

K712 Pro: much better soundstage, more balanced frequency response balance (slightly warm but definitely not as bass heavy as LCD-2), comfortwise in a different galaxy...

Have you had a chance to listen to the K712 yet or just the Annie's?  They are very similar but unless there was a huge rolloff moving from the Audio-GD SA-31 to the Soloist, then I find the K712 to have more amplitude in the highs.  I know you've owned the Soloist, so you should be familiar with it's signature and you've owned Audio-GD, though not sure if any of the diamond diff. stuff.  When I had K702 65th + SA-31 I thought it to be a bit rolled off.

With K712 + Soloist I actually have to eq down the 2khz and around 10khz by about 2-3db to take the edge off though.  I'm very pleased with the combo overall though.  I have yet to hear a Q701 though so I can't compare, only K701, of which it is a worthwhile improvement IMO.  For proper perspective my order of ownership was K702 65th, AD2000X, HD800, and then K712.  Annies and AD2000X owned at same time, then AD2000X and HD800, now just K712 only.

About three weeks in and I am really enjoying the K712. It is a perfect companion to my beloved K501 as they both provide different enough experiences from eachother while maintaining the AKG "sound".

I really was not happy at all with the Q701, I returned them within a 30 day refund window at a local store. For me, the Q701 and K712 are worlds apart and the difference in cost is well worth it..... personal preferences should always be the deciding factor with audio gear.

Damn so I gotta ditch my annies? And get k712? The comfort is in another world so I was keeping them for computer use mainly, even though ive got other phones I enjoy more for music.

The Audio-GD is a pretty dead neutral line. I've had a handful of their amps. Part of what you're experiencing might be the treble tilt of the Soloist. I shudder to think of a HD800 paired with the soloist.

If you are happy, then the differences are too subtle to justify having to spend more money.

But who am I kidding... I, admittedly, switched from Anniversary to K712. If you can find a K712 for under $350 and still sell the Anniversay for around the same amount... then go for it. If it costs more than $50 out of your pocket to make the jump, however, I wouldn't say it's really worth it. This is only my opinion, of course. If you do a search you should be able to find chico's extensive impressions between the K712 and Anniversary.

Chico, did you ever open a thread with that review, BTW?

Anyone read the Headfonics review? It's very good:

http://headfonics.com/2013/10/the-k712-pro-by-akg/3/

I don't really disagree with any of it that I saw. Just the part about the changes in bass between gain settings and that it's "unpicky" with amps.

(hopefully that link is allowed or else mods can delete it)

Hahahahahjahahhaha!

Sorry, that's not at you, just the ironic timing.

They're basically in the same class of sound quality, both lively but choose either the Q701 for more sense of air and less bass prominence OR the K712 for 3dB more bass (and sub bass extension) and a little more forward midrange. The K712 has an advantage with a more universally comfortable headband and a spare coiled cable, and of course it's newer with a new color scheme. Pick your preference, I enjoy both.
