Yup, just barely sold mine (after being in the FS forums for 2 months).

I compared them to the Annie:

- Smaller cups

- Harder foam (less comfortable)

- Less bass

- Mids are more forward

- Bit more treble

- Overall thinner sound

I find they're still a really great value. Better than the original K601.

The HE-500 is not that uncomfortable to me, but is much more bulky and clamping than the AKG K712 Pro which are two major comfort factors for me.

The AKG K7xx line of headphones are actually harder to drive than their sensitivity suggests.  My BUDA for example on medium gain is at 75% which is pretty unusual.  Even the LCD-3 does not go that high on the dial.  Be sure to pick an amp with some extra beef to get the most out of your K712 Pro.

You do realize the K712 is the K701 with different pads, correct?

NA Blur : "IS IT JUST THE PADS THAT CHANGE THE SOUND?

I tested the Q701 and K712 Pro without pads.  I simply left off the pads of each and did immediate swap testing.  My BUDA continuously drives both headphones during this test.  It looks like the drivers are the same, but the resonator is different.  The Q701 has a noticeably different and somewhat tinny sounding midrange compared to the K712 Pro.  Both sound much closer to one another than I initially thought would be the case suggesting that there is no doubt benefit to the new pads"

I guess you are more right than wrong if I went off of this^ and If I make the conclusion with the combined threads I guess it does have a lot to do with the k712.

I prob wouldn't go around calling them the same hp but I get it.

So I stand mostly corrected(mostly). my bad

This has been proven to not be true (by Chicolom). Where do you come up with this? I guess I assumed the same thing about the Q701 when it was new.

Q701 + memory foam pads IS supposedly 100% identical to the Anniversary but NOT the K712.

WHOAH!!! 75% on medium gain?! Is that with a 1mb mp3 player as a source or something?

With the Q701 I only need 45% with my Micro Amp using the Schiit Modi as a source.

Headphone that needs the most gain for me was probably the K601 and K400.

Medium gain on Headroom amps is more like low on other amps. Low on the Micro is only usable for IEMs I think  which is a good thing..

Internally w/ parts they are identical.

I think its just driver that is the same internally. Not sure though. Just like the old q701 thread vs k701 we need pictures of this because apparently AKG isn't giving enough answers for us to make final statements.

who is willing to dissect these babies to prove it. spill their guts

PUT YOUR AKG'S ON THE ALTAR AND SACRIFICE THEM FOR US ALLLLLLL MUHUHHAAAHAHAHA. Don't worry you can put them back together again.

Wow, really? Have you completely disassembled them and compared them all?

K712 even has a new driver part # apparently...

Q701 and K702 are internally identical too. Only difference is the outer grill and foam.

I guess it will always be a mystery but at least AKG gave the K712 driver a new part# unlike with the pads.

Sigh...  I guess I'll break it down more thoroughly

The comment collection had to do with the bass mod on the K712 by removing a sticker on the back of the driver housing. This sticker is present on the K712 and aside from some possible tuning the interior driver, locking, swivel and wiring mechanisms of the K702 and K712 are identical.

Whoah, settle down people!

I think all that Elwappo was saying was simply that the "bass port" mod is still relevant to the K712, as physically it's essentially the same as the others.

If only someone here had taken them apart and taken pictures of them on the inside...:(

OH WAIT!!  Someone already did!
