Any idea on HE-500 vs K712 pro? xD

Never heard the HE-500, but as good as the HE-400 is I would take the K712 all day long.

I think the problem with the HE400 is it's polarizi g sound signature. I doubt the HE500 is like that. It probably would be what you'd want in a planar, Evs.

Haven't gotten to listen to the K712 (yet) but I own the Annie and have had the HE-500 twice.

I like the Annie much, much more than the HE-500.

That is one hell of a statement. smily_headphones1.gif

But not surprising, as I liked my Annie nearly as much as the LCD2.

If its sounds as good as the HE-400 but without the giant headphone feel of the HE-400's that would be pretty amazing!

Thanks,

same here, except I have opposite experience.  The HE500 wins for me over the 65th anniv. any day and enough for me to not touch them for over 2-3 months already.

My K712 is getting much head time. This is a very impressive phone, better than my Q701 and every bit as good as my HE-500. AKG nailed this one, it sounds perfectly balanced with my ears. I usually listen to SACD stereo layer or streamed FLAC with Bifrost, Lyr, Asgard 2. I bought 712 through Razordog and IMO they are well worth the cost difference over Q701. Great job AKG!

I think I forgot to mention what type of sound signature I wanted xD

Wanted something with excellent timbre, imaging and outstanding mids are preferred. Most importantly, not too much bass!! I am interested in a more forward highs as I am used to Grados sound and love the sound it has. [not getting Grado because of the comfort issue]

So basically the AKG K712 will outperform the HE-500?

Not even the K701 is as bright as Grados, not nearly, so I doubt K712 will suit you. HE500 is also warm-ish. You want the Beyer T90 or Senn HD700.

To me the K712 Pro is very revealing and even some of my reference material limits its capabilities.

Chain of Fools from the Table for 2 album is awesome while Ochen Watch from the New Age Soul album is a little one dimensional sounding.

It is definitely a headphone that keeps my ears wanting better recordings every minute.

Don't have to be as bright smily_headphones1.gif Those Beyerdynamic and Sennheiser are out of my max budget boundary. Would prefer something below $700 for headphone and $200-$300 for amp and I am still very new to higher end headphones D:
