Head-Fiers!

I often salute not just Jude, but all of you in my articles because it feels great to be embraced by this community.

After all, as I just wrote to a member here - though I'm a music biz vet and an audiophile industry bum journo - I'm still a relative Nu Jack to high end personal audio!

But many of you have aided in changing that.  So when Richard Beers, a good friend and President of T.H.E Show Newport

asked me to help pick a few companies to make up a dedicated headphone area I went to THE MAN - Jude!

He's a good friend and a good man.  Thanks for his encouragement, and to Marjorie's at RMAF as well (I wasn't going to help

because I also work for RMAF).  But, after my friends suggested I take it on - here we are!

More people being exposed to what we're doing is a GOOD THING right?

The Headphonium Ballroom exhibitors (and Head-Fi sponsors, minus HRT):

ALO Audio

Amarra

Audeze

CEntrance

HiFiMAN

HRT

iRiver / Astell & Kern

Schiit Audio

We'll also have a DIY guy there  - just working out the details

and I'll edit this ASAP!!

I really LOVED The Village Headphone Meet last year, so I went to their playbook!

So, if you're around SoCal May 31-June 2nd - come by The Headphonium event at T.H.E Show Newport (same people that put on T.H.E Show in Vegas as an alternative to CES).  The Headphonium at located at The Atrium Hotel - as this is a two hotel event.  It flanks a pool and an outside bar,  On the opposite side of the pool will be a huge vinyl ballroom put together by Record Collector magazine!

That's gonna be a BLAST!

T.H.E Show Facebook page

T.H.E Show Twitter page

HEADPHONE PANEL:

Times:

5/31 - 2PM

6/1 - 1PM

Panelists:

Tyll Hertsens - Inner Fidelity (needs no introduction)

Alex Rosson - Audeze (needs no introduction)

Michael Goodman - CEntrance (should need no introduction)

George Cardas - Cardas Audio (geez, again?)

Michael Mercer - Me  - sorry, I'm just the ragtag audio journalist

I always thought there should be more turntables at headphone events.

I love listening to vinyl on a sweet phonostage through my headphone rig.

They got alot of attendees last year,

Obviously, it's growing from 2 hotels to 3 in three years.

C'mon down and show these old timers what the community is all about.

We NEED the ENERGY the PASSION

PLUS: Companies like Audioquest and Kef, Wilson Audio and Dan D'Agostino plus

tons of others will be there exhibiting in the hotel rooms!!

Thanks for the announcement, sounds like it'll be a great show! I won't be able to make it but hope to see a lot of Head-Fiers attend.

Thanks for the well wishes!!

How would you suggest I get the word out more effectively here?

I'm a proud member of the Head-Fi tribe, and while I have deeps roots in the Hifi industry,

I am still a relative Nu Jack to this - which is why its SO DAMN EXCITING FOR ME.

What else would you recommend??

Maybe a "main page" feature by Jude? I'd suggest a different, shorter title for this thread too, like maybe "Headphonium Event @ 2013 THE Show Newport Beach CA 5/31-6/2".

Also since I was there last year, I'll add my own endorsement: it was a good show, and I'd highly recommend that anyone local to SoCal (or CA for that matter) who's interested in headphones should attend and help support the event, and help spread the word too. I'm not sure why this event hasn't gotten more attention yet, especially when I see Head-Fiers asking where they can hear headphones, amps, etc. This would be a great event to attend to hear that stuff along with high-end speakers!

Heck, and Tyll will be there. Anywhere Tyll goes, a good time is guaranteed! smile.gif

Thanks for the tips!

I've been writing to Jude.  I got nothin but positive words for my boy.  He's a good friend.  Just very busy I think.

YES!

We have Tyll on our headphone panel!

The panel is dope, I think (and not because I'm on it, I was on last year too):

Tyll Herstens

Alex Rosson - (you guys know) CEO, Audeze

Michael Goodman - (again you guys know) CTO CEntrance

George Cardas - A legend and a fun and good man

Me - Michael Mercer - Positive Feedback, The Daily Swarm,

HPSoundings, Enjoy The Music

- representing the ragtag audio journalist

I'm planning on attending right now. The place is only 10 minutes away my campus and I've heard THE is a good one. I'm also excited to audition some of the high end stuff smily_headphones1.gif

I'd be willing to give any fellow Anteaters a ride if they need it.

SO psyched to hear you'll be there!!

Please help spread the word.

There will be a huge vinyl retail ballroom flanking The Headphonium space, brought to THE Show by Record Collector magazine.

Should be FUN - not to mention the car show and the food trucks - they're going to have alot more of them

this year!!

Having a BLAST listening to this right now:

Astell & Kern AK100 High Rez Player

ALO International headphone amp

Audeze LCD3's

ALO Green Line cables

ALO SXC 22 mini-to-mini

Review of the whole system to follow at Part-time Audiophile

The only reason to avoid this show is that parking can be tight, and I don't want you taking my space biggrin.gif.

Be sure to visit the host audio club's hospitality suite (Free Food!).

Seriously, this is a very consumer-friendly show and the chance to see and hear some truly outrageous gear. A highlight from last year - the theme music from The Addams Family played on a custom reel-to-reel tape deck over 6-foot-tall electrostatic speakers.

Thanks for the kind words about T.H.E Show!

Sure, it started as another high end audio show for, as MY WIFE calls em: "pocket-protector audiophiles" - her joke (imagine her seeing me in that wacky industry for 16 years, WILD) - but Richard Beers started T.H.E Show in Vegas at the St Tropez as an alternative for CES - saving MANY smaller companies (DIY guys, etc.) enough money to actually have a decent room in Vegas!  This all before the high end audio show was even at The Venetian!!  Richard's one of the funniest men I know - and he doesn't take himself so seriously either, which is refreshing...

Looking forward to having you there for the very first headphone show within T.H.E Show at The Headphonium ballroom

We put it together without much time, but we pulled it off!

THEY ALSO GOT 2 MORE LOTS FOR PARKING!!!!

Jude told me this week he maybe coming to Newport now!!

Would be GREAT to have him.

We haven't seen each other since CES.

The Sony PHA-1 is really impressing me as a USB DAC/head-amp as well!

The insanely low noisefloor allows for amazing micro and macro-dynamic detail retrieval,

aside of translating the emotive impact of the music in a way that simply floors me!

A really SOLID piece of kit by them.

And again I must salute Jude as he let me hear it at CanJam 2012!!

T.H.E Show Newport has SOLD OUT for VENDORS!!

DON'T MISS THIS SHOW

I think they got something crazy like 450 exhibitors.

YES - it's an old school crowd, but any chance to get together right?

Jude told me he maybe coming, and I sincerely hope to see my friend

and spend some time with him and any other fellow Head-Fiers!

This is a Hi-fi show that also features a car show, home theaters in pop-up sheds outside the hotels,

and LA FOOD TRUCKS!!

I was psyched to help put together a small headphone show within that event, and I hope to see

ALL LA HEAD-FIERS THERE!!

and I'm spinning some vinyl at this party at the Atrium Hotel on Fri and Sat. night too: 8-11pm

(details to follow)

this is sounding AMAZING right now btw:

I assume this is both for attendees and vendors? I really want to attend but just want to confirm if it is for sure SOLD OUT. Then I'll just hop on to the Head Fi Summer Regional meet if yes.

The T.H.E. Facebook page has not yet been updated to match this as well as, a friend a few hours ago managed to register and pay for his pass.
