Thats a tough question as i really like the sound of both headphones. The main difference i find is the mt220 is more neutral sounding so it depends if you prefer that or something a bit more colored. The main reason i got rid of the momentums is i just could not get comfortable for long listening periods and like you i was always worried about ruining their good looks. The mt220s are supremely more comfortable and their massive soundstage makes music, movies and games sound amazing. Plus compared to the momentums they're pretty ugly and basic looking so i dont worry about having to baby them :)

yammy sounds BIGGER...momentum is more "stuck to the ears"...i didnt get the wow moment;

i tried the on ear around ear versions a few times, didnt felt the urge to bring one home.

And the cupsize..might not fit those with bigears.

Just my view. dun throw the yammy at me. :P

If the coil cable is a bother..u can always cut it off at about 3-3.5feet..

from your ears to the waist. :)

....ugly>???  duhzzz

ATTENTION EVERYONE I BOUGHT THE MT220's! :basshead:

I hope I made the right decision becasue catchoftheday has a way to put you under pressure at the most inconvenient times known to man!

After talking to my brother the MT220's seems like the better deal and the better headphone for my needs.

It turns out that I already had some money in my payal ($22.39) from a partial refund of a product that I couldn't replace coz they were out of stock!

so it turns out that it only cost me AU$117.13!!

Did I make the right decision!? Only time will tell!

I like the look of them, they strangely remind me of the M50's design!

The MT220's don't look that ugly! to me they look more sturdy!

If I owned the momentums I think I couldn't stop worrying about "ruining their good looks" (brilliant way to describe my thoughts chailee80) and I won't repeat myself about how delicate they are for me.

I'll still look after them the same but it's a breathe of fresh air to know that they are a pretty sturdy headphone.

awh dw you guys helped enormously but I asked for my brother's opinion just becasue he knows how I'm like with headphones ^_^

your input defiantly persuaded me into getting these, trust me :o

I only mentioned the price becasue I saved half of the total price that I could of spent it all on the momentums.

a deal is always better when make a savings plus the extra money will probably go towards an ipod 5th gen but we'll see.

If you don't end up liking the yamahas i dont think you'll have a hard time selling them for close to what you paid for them.

Just ordered the Focal Spirit Pro along with the NAD HP50 and they'll battle it out with my MT220's to see who shall be king headphone of my computer desk.

Yeh my supplier has a 20 day return policy and it only costs me the return postage fee :D

I love my mt220's but i hate the coiled cable, if i can find something that sounds as good with a regular straight cable the yamahas will go into early retirement.

Cut n fit in a straight extension cord...often times it adds interest to the sound. wink.gif

this is a random question which is not really headphone related tbh.

however do you guys think it's worth purchasing a iPod Touch 5th Generation now or wait patiently for the 6th generation to come out?

I know that most of you guys/girls may hate apple iPods and I was like that too however after owning a Cowon J3 I prefer an iPod more. Mainly because the cowon J3 hardly never got updated software and if it did it hardly made any changes at all.

Lastly, has anyone modded or got a professional to mod a pair of MT220's to have a detachable cable and is it worth doing?

EDIT: is it true that the MT220's RRP was US$399 because on the Australian Yamaha website the RRP is AU$249.95. Could it be that this model of headphone is reasonably a few or more years old so they dropped the RRP price?
