I would also love to know how the vega compares to the invicta. I'd think there's probably not many people with both though. Maybe someone's at least heard them both?

I am pretty sure project86 has both as he commented on them here

I never got to compare the Vega directly to the DA8. I definitely think the Vega is better though, based on extrapolating the differences between each unit and my reference Invicta. Vega comes a lot closer than DA8.

So the Vega is worse than Invicta?

I went to hear the Auralic Vega and the Bricasti M1 at Ciamara in Manhattan last Sunday.  The Bricasti was the better DAC, as it should be given the $5000 price difference between the two.  The Auralic sounded very similar to the PS Audio Perfect Wave DAC.  Given that the Perfect Wave DAC can be purchased used for about $2K, that would be my bang-for-the-buck choice among the three DACs I heard.

In the end all DACs sound "very similar" to each other. :p

Can anyone point me in the direction of a Demo or Slightly used Vega for sale? Pretty sure this is the unit I desire to purchase and build a new system around. Simply trying to save a few bucks. Along with several others I suspect!

There's one for sale in the sources for sale thread here...

Well i own auralic vega for a few weeks now. It replaced in my system dcs puccini. As transport serves esoteric P70. I can not compere these two players directly because puccini played in my speakers system and i have sold these for some time, but it did not hurt ;-). I can though say that vega has huge potential. It shows clearly differences between cables and transports is very detailed and smooth. I wait for a streamer from auralic that is to come in may.

I asked an audiophile friend of mine for a DAC recommendation under $5K, and he said the Auralic Vega is his number one choice. I've been looking for a DAC with balanced outputs to maximize the potential of my rig; I'd really like to hear this DAC! :D

So what's keeping you from doing that? :))

You won't be disappointed, even if you end up buying it without hearing it. Trust me, the reviews don't lie.

Something puzzles me. This Dac has a preamp function. Can it be turned off to be used with fixed volume outputs?
I mean, if I want to connect an integrated amp and a headphone amp to it which both have volume controls I really don't want another volume control in-between.

Since you're selling/sold your vega. What have you upgraded too?

Has anyone compared the Auralic Vega to a Weiss Minerva or Weiss DAC 2?

Hook up all your new stuff and play toons non stop for a few days from your Macbook. The DAC sounds great from day one, but the presentation does seem to relax after a 100+ hours.

The only regret I have with this DAC is when I look at my bank account.

And congrats on the fine DAC.

santacore and Andrew_WOT, are you still happy with your respective Auralic Vega DACs? Any special remarks, either positive or negative, now that you have lived with them for quite some time? santacore, I see you work in pro-audio as do I. Any comparisons with other DACs you may have used in studios?

I still love my Vega, and have stopped thinking about my DAC (ie-not looking to upgrade). It's extremely musical and checks all the boxes for me. With all my previous DAC's, I always felt like I could find flaws that annoyed me. This is a keeper in my book.

As for work-most of the studios I work at are still using Avid (Digi) 192's. Pro Tools is the king DAW in my world, and most places are running the same old gear. Pro audio people are far less concerned about the latest and greatest, and more concerned about stability. They could give a rats ass about the latest DA chips or the fancy cables I use at home.
