CDs/Albums everyone should own

Thread Starter

the point of this thread is compile a list of CDs/Albums which everyone should own even if it is not their preferred genre.

The Cds/Albums can be in the form of a 'Best of album' or even an itunes exclusive download, it doesn't matter!

Hopefully this list will give people a starting point if they wish to expand their listening into other genres and they don't know where to start.

Genres:

Pop

Jazz:

Time out - Brubeck quartet (CD/Vinyl)
Kind of Blues - Miles Davis (CD)

Dynamic Jazz Vol1-4 - Various Artists (itunes download: not very good quality but great selection for the price)

Blues

Acoustic Blues

Bronx in blue - Dion

Funk

Reggae

Ska

Rock Steady

African

Carribean

Indian

Rock

2112 - Rush
Whether or not you like Rush, this was an important album. Not just for Prog, but the philosophy behind it and the reason is exists at all is timeless.

Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson
Very influencial album period. It's got a sound which is just...unique no matter how you look at it.

Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie
Easily one of the best operas period.

Metal

Metal Rap

Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine (CD /180g Vinyl)

Electronic

Classical

Modern classical

Tubular Bells 1-3 - Mike Oldfield

if an album has already been posted which you would also like to reccomend please make a post saying:

'insert album here' 'insert artist hear' +1
this will allow me to rank the albums depending on how many reccomendations they get smily_headphones1.gif

I know i have missed lots, if you see any i have missed just post to let me know smily_headphones1.gif

once we have a substantial list for each i will open a vote to vote for the top 5 in each genre smily_headphones1.gif

Maybe you should make it in a form of a table or add some kind of indicator to the number of mentions, the more head-fi users mention that album - the more people should take notice

Rock

Tool - Lateralus  (there is just something special in that album, can't even define it)
Jeff Buckley - Grace ( because it gets 3 times better after your heart is broken)
Neil Young - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (Well, it is high on Rock)
