My music is all in genre folders rather than artist, so I am trying a 32GB card with just three folders in the root folder. It is a bit soon to say for sure but so far the first folder seems to be getting most of the play time, with the second folder next and the third folder/genre coming up the least often. So maybe there is something to my theory that the lower numbers come up more often. I can say that with my folders reshuffled for this experiment that it is a pleasure to be hearing mostly "fresh" music I have not heard for a long time. Time will also tell if certain songs keep coming up more often on this smaller card. I did have one song repeat after just two songs, and that is with 525 songs on the card. It could happen randomly, but those are pretty long odds when I only listened to about 30 songs yesterday.
I have mentioned my concerns to Charles and he may be coming up with a solution. There is a random number generator that supposedly is truly random, but then there is an algorithm that converts the random number to a lower number between 1 and 128 (or whatever the actual number of folders or files is). The problem might be with this algorithm having a tendency to convert to certain numbers more often than others, thus making the end result less random.
Unfortunately, any update to the software in the Tera would require shipping the unit back to Germany.
