Nah its definitely not a damaged ear drum, it would be much more severe than this. I dont have any actual pain, and my hearing is perfectly normal. Its just a problem when listening to headphones.

This happens to me sometimes. One day my headphones sound great and then later, not so much. It's usually just listening fatigue and me kind of just listening for the sake of listening! not because I really want to if that makes sense. Also stress is sometimes the cause as well.

I find when I really feel like listening to some music and I'm in the mood my headphones "sound" better.

Go listen to really bad headphones for 2 hours.

Then put on good ones and listen to them.

After listening to good speakers, headphones always loose out in the sound stage department. And they sound to ... "clinical"

Thats right, one time after spending two weeks without hearing any music at all because I was canoeing in algonquin I got inside the car and turned on the radio. Man, that sounded good.

Are your ear canals clean and not gunked up with wax?

Whats the caffeine situation?  Caffeine consumption, or the levels of consumption have a dramatic affect on my hearing.  Too much and it causes ringing in my ears, a can of coke is the worst.

I would definitely give your ears a break.  Wear expansion ear-plugs for a couple days if need-be.  Sometimes I do this just to give my ears a break from the noise of the laundry-washer.
