How Do You Discover Music? - Page 8

I discovered most of my music for the last 5 years through Youtube, Last Fm and the music reviewing website Sputnik Music. Especially youtube though where I always flick through the related bands/artists.

For EDM www.di.fm

Living in the US, I listen to some radio shows from Europe and that gives me the opportunity to discover bands that otherwise I would never hear of. Also, I search online for bands/musicians that have a similar style to the ones I already like, I have discovered a lot of artists this way.

There's a Russian social network called vkontakte (vk.com) a lot better than facebook with a less intrusive interface. I speak Russian so its not a problem for me (there's also an English/Spanish version) where you can get recommendations according to your music playlist. Sometimes I check what others headfiers listen too.

Honestly, browse Youtube. I'm on there so much anyway.

Just went there for the first time 20 minutes ago and haven't stopped listening since. This site is awesome, it's like someone literally asked me for my ideal music site. Some enhanced integration with YouTube or being able to save titles of songs would be nice though.

the biggest issue I have with DI.fm is the lack of 320kbs :/ $50  a year for... 256k.... LAME >.>

Yeah that's why I ain't paying for nothing.

Suggested artists on xbox Music, and random Artist searches on MOG. Which, by the way, has unlimited 320kbps streaming for five bucks a month.

But I heard it was owned by Beats by Dre.

Nothing wrong with that. At least, as long as you don't have to use Beats to listen to their music. :D Plus he acquired the company after it was established, so he didn't actually have anything to do with the music or website.

It's like some fundamentalists who will never touch a "insert country here" product, here at Head-Fi we don't like Beats.

To each his own.:)

I spend a ton of time at my local library.. They have a 5k+ collection of music plus there are 10-20 branches in the metro area that are accessible for free as well.  An easy and quick way to sample alot of music.
