Sennheiser HD650 vs AKG K702 65th or Hifiman He500 ? - Page 10

All subjective at this point..

No differences there, except new pads. I strongly recommend to try all next to each other from the same system and see from there, other than that, its just pointless to crap one above another, imo.

THX.

That's your subjective opinion as well - correct?

Oh - my bad - I see the IMObiggrin.gif

I had 3 side by side.  K701, Q701 and the K702 65th.  All with stock pads.  I don't pad roll.  IMO the 65th was the much better headphone over the K701 and the slightly better headphone over the Q701.

Now, the question is....which version of the K 701 were you using for the comparisons? The 8-bump headband edition (newer, post-Quincy Jones era), or the 7-bump headband edition (older, pre-Quincy Jones era)? :D

Curse you AKG for making 5 similar headphones.....but yes, I have seen the general consensus that the 65th Anniversary Editions sound different from the Q 701's.

Q701 were not my liking, as a whole product, not just sound wise. I compared K701 with 7 bumps, Q701 and K702 and to me Q701 were way behind of other two. The differences between K701 and K702 are more subtle, but for me enough to have both around, however, because they are differently wired, one with detachable cable and another direct from drivers, its very difficult to judge them equally, especially when the used cables are differ as well.

Fair enough -- hope you enjoy the other two (or whatever else you favor).  My quest has ended (bought another Q701 for backup or my kid).  To my ears and reasoning, it essentially is signature preference once you hit these levels (including up through the "summit" stuff.  Lots of cognitive dissonance going on, I suspect, which frequency charts seem to support).

Why does AKG not provide some clarification regarding any driver changes they might have made between K702, Q701, K701, and K702 65th. To me it just seems like all they are doing is rehashing the same product in different packages. Am i wrong in making that statement? Have they said about any driver changes between these models?

Wow, I just realised that this thread was only made 5 days ago and it has 10 pages of replies. :o

Regarding the original poster, yes the O2 and ODAC should be fine with driving the 65th Anniversary K 702's. I think the 65th Anniversary K 702 would be a better choice for vocal-based music genres.

For me personally, I prefer the sound of the K 701 (8-bump) to the HD650, but I can definitely see the appeal for the HD650's. Mad Lust Envy suggested current K 701 and/or Q 701 owners to try out the 65th Anniversary pads since they do make a difference both in terms of sound and comfort.

I haven't critically listened to the HE-500, but I had the opportunity to do so at a local Head-Fi meet (this was before the time I started to critically listen to headphones).

the 8 bump  k701 which i owned was very nice, tight bass, warm yet uncolored mids, non-fatiguing treble. absolutely sublime out of the WA6-SE

would be nice to hear how the 65th compares.

I am actually thinking it might be defective. I'm open to that idea and it would be nice to hear someone else's to find out.
