Deep and wide are two different things. I'm sticking by what I said, they are not key term "wider" (bigger) than the AD700, having played with both stock and modded. The AD700 sounds light compared to the heavy sound of the K550 which is why you perceive in them offering a bigger soundstage. Given that the K550 are no slouch and I thoroughly enjoyed one when I listened to it. The downsight is the annoyingly bright sig of the AD700 and no bass, not even tight or punchy there is hardly any bass presence on them.

The AD900 is a worlds apart upgrade from them. AD2000 even bigger, the AD1000 is rubbish on the other hand, disappointment mess by AT.

Wait, so I just realized that the DT990's are cheaper than the 880's, supposedly pack more bass and have a bigger soundstage? I think those would suit my needs exactly. Now I need to make a choice between the 880's and 990's

Unless you're going for the 600ohm versions, the 990's like it's 770 brother, is slightly recessed and has bright highs (don't know the correct terminology), packing same amount of bass as the 770. The 880 are more neutral than both.

High five man, that's the real deal!

The Sony MDRMA900 has been well reviewed here.

I think I'll end up ordering the 990's this Friday. If I don't like them I'll try the Sonys. If I don't like THOSE I'll try the ultrasone 900's. If all else fails I'll try the AD900s

Which version of the 990's will you be ordering? I recommend the 250/600ohm prems'.

The 250s

Nice stuff, 250 premium > 250 pro's.

That's probably true but they're also $200 more expensive lol. I could afford them but I can't justify spending that much just yet.

Really $200 more? Don't know where you are buying it from but the premium's are at most $60 more than the normal pro's here.

The ATH-A900Xs don't quite have the soundstage of the AD 700s, but their bass is far superior and they're still quite airy.

So slight change of plans here. I did the foam & rubberband mod on my AD700's, EQ'd the low end and these things sound significantly better than they ever have. They actually have bass now! I'm also using the Flex Bass feature on the Asus Xonar DG with the small HP setting and the slider all of the way to the left. I found this really helps clean up the bass and keeps it from drowning out the mids when I really bump up the slider. Just thought I'd share that with everyone.

I would look more towards your source, anything over +0.1 DB will cause clipping, question is why aren't you hearing it. You should set 30Hz at 0 and everything else respectively below that.
