As expected.... plenty of power on tap, and several people reporting good synergy there. Unless you're one of those guys who swears the HE-6 can only be adequately powered by  500 watt monoblocks or something.

So far I have tried several amps on the lower side of 500 megawatts, and I like them all.

I wrote a few lines at the monoblockheadthread...

LOL - I will never buy this, but what an excellent idea :D

Agreed! The only thing better would be if it played music straight from the SD card, a la Resonessence Invicta. But that's probably asking too much since there's already a startling amount of functionality packed in there.

The Taurus is really getting the hang of it now, driving the HE6. I'm really pleased. I am regaining confidence in certain (always raving) reviewers. This is gooooood =)

Hello all:

Been driving my LCD 2.2 and 3 with the Schiit Mjolnir. Always have the itch to look for something different hence I was reading about the Taurus MKII. If anyone here has heard both of them, would love to hear from you. Even otherwise, would like to get your thoughts especially on the balanced amp (the Mjolinir is balanced).

Thanks

I've heard them side by side (mkI - but they seems to be the same) with LCD-3 and HE500

I prefered LCD-3 on the Mjolnir, but other good ears have the excact opposite opinion. I prefered the HE500 on the Taurus (and THAT is a great match indeed).

I have the Taurus (mkI) now, and is really happy with it - it even drives the HE6. A good thing about Taurus is that it has two mode (BAL and STD) which rubes the amp in different configuration. It souns slightly different, so you get two amps in one. It is also dead silent. Mjolnir is prone to picking up mains noise - but that depends on the mains you have - wether or not that is a problem.

I have a Taurus MKII, and I cannot be more satisfied with it.

I'm using an HE-500, and the sound is very good. the DAC is the VEGA, and the connections are balanced both for input and output (using the OCC copper cable from HiFiman).

I've also tried the MKII with the HE-6 and the Senny HD800, and the result was impressive as well.

all in all, I would say that the Taurus MKII is well worth the money it costs.

I agree with the LCD 3 - Mjolnir combo. Have no problems with any noise.
I have the 500 as well so it might be worth while to try the Taurus.
Thank you for the feedback.

Mike, thank for the heads up on the VEGA. I have the Schiit Gungnir and it's a very good balanced DAC.
Although I wonder whether the DAC/Amp pairing is best with the same manufacturer.

I know an owner who really thinks the HE500 is a bad match with the Mjolnir, so maybe you're into a pleasant surprise if you choose the Taurus. Taurus plays very well with the LCD3, and my impressions on the LCD3, Mjolnir, Taurus is based on brief demos. I don't really think the Taurus is less good with LCD3, just a tad different.

Actually, I was not excited with the 500-Mjolnir combo. Then I tried a modded version of the ear pads for the 500 ( it's called the jergpads by modulor and there is a whole thread dedicated to it) and the result was fantastic, IMO.
The 500 just opened up and everything sounded more expansive. Of course, YMMV.

I use Beyer 990 pads. But I always liked the he500, though

How Taurus compares to Headamp GS-X or GS-1?
