I decided to loan the the Taurus MKII from The Cable Co (here's the link in case anyone wants to see what else they have/sell http://www.thecableco.com/Product/category.aspx?cid=401).  Ethan was so helpful too and the amp was already burned-in.

First impressions:

I used the current setup last night but I might switch to some other cans later in the week.
PC -> Monoprice Premium USB cable -> Bifrost Uber USb -> Monoprice Premium RCA cable -> Asgard 2 -> TH900

First impressions:

I was let down by this amp at first because I didn't notice much difference but the more I am listening the more I'm hearing the increase in detail and something that I want to call articulation.  I feel like the sounds are more articulate if that makes any sense?  I also noticed that anything that echos/reverberates sounds so much better than my Asgard 2 (the A2 is a wonderful amp tho don't get me wrong).  I'm still not completely sold on this amp though given it costs practically $1900 and to be honest I'm still let down, I was hoping for more noticeable differences.  I realize it won't be drastic differences but I was hoping for more.  I feel there's also something missing in the mids or somewhere close by but I haven't been able to put my finger on it yet as I've only listened to this amp for a few hours last night.  Keep in mind this may just be my imagination as I got haven't done much A/B'ing between this and the Asgard.  Also I think it's important to note that this is my first time listening to a high end amp.  I read some other people on this forum describe the treble as etchy but I haven't noticed this as of yet.

I was surprised at how well it scales when paired with a high end DAC. The Vega + Taurus pairing works very well for me.

Someone had a chance to try an Auralic Aries ?

Just a heads up, I updated my first impressions above.

Thanks for first impressions.

You should do the minimum recommended 100 hours of burn-in, orfeo modules and big caps need some run time before they do operate at their best.

Besides that class A amps like this one need at least 30 mins of warm up before listening.

PS: How about HD650 balanced on MK2 vs SE on A2? That should be fun, HD650 scales enormous with balanced drive.

The amp actually was burned-in prior to me receiving it but I will update my post with that as to be clear.  Yes, I left it on for an hour before too.  I don't have balanced cables for my HD650s.

So I've done a 180 on this amp and it's only fair that I share and quote my previous post. After listening to this for 4 days straight then going back to the Asgard, my music felt a bit naked. Gone were all of those details and soundstage that I had unknowingly grown to adore. The Asgard 2 is wonderful but it's a $250 amp being pitted against one almost 8 times the price. This amp is at the top of my list for SS amps for both the HD700 and TH900.

Thanks for the update. That's actually a very good approach - often times we don't know what we have until it goes away.... not trying to be too deep or philosophical but it applies to a broad range of things in life.

A question about the Vega.

Is there a way to bypass the volume control and use it with fixed outputs?

Does the Dac always upsample, no setting for this?

100 is their "line out" mode, just leave the volume there...

+1. I never use the DAC volume control on my Vega.

Ok, I see, thanks.

Still beats me why anyone would want to put a volume control on a dac if it has no headlamp. Preamp function, sure but I see more people actually using the outputs with an integrated amp rather than power amps.

What about the up-sampling, always on?

Finally got the Auralic VEGA and ARIES to complete my all Auralic bedroom headphone setup.  I must say that I am quite impressed with VEGA's performance even without the burn-in; to the point that I am considering adding another VEGA to my living room stereo system.

As for the ARIES, it works well and sounds great once I get over the initial setup process.  I was having a bit of trouble initially getting it to connect to my home wifi, but was able to resolve it eventually.  Once it's up and running, I had no issues streaming hi-res FLAC/DSD files wirelessly so far (no drop-outs since I set it up to run continuously for burn-in).
