I got the JCAT USB-cable and it pairs great with the Vega. I never thougt that an even bigger soundstage and even more detail was possible but it increased with another 20% I would say. Not to forget the Black Widow cables for the LCD-X and my Music-server with Paul Pangs USB-card.  In the end every part in the chain counts. I am lucky that all the parts in my chain (+Master 9) have a fantastic synergy.

Received my Taurus MKii today and will be using it with the HE-6 and my Bel Canto DAC 3.5vB MKii. I do think that this amp has great synergy with the HE-6.

Can anyone tell me what other headphones that have a great synergy with this amp other than my HE-6?

I heard it works well with HD800, TH900, T1, LCD 2, etc.

MKII works great with LCD-3, HD-800 and ADs. I am using it all in Balanced mode.

Please let me know how it is with HE-6.

I will post my findings of the amp with the HE-6. As I only got it today, gonna burn in the amp and headphones before elaborating on the SQ.

But first impression is: The HE-6 is incredibly neutral. It does not have a very wide soundstage compared to HD800. But the mids and highs are very enticing, making me wanna sit at the couch and listen to it the whole day!

Im currently using it in single ended. I'll swap around the connections and see which is better.

However, this is just my first impressions of the HE-6 with the Taurus MKii. Gonna need more time before I can elaborate further.

Which termination do you prefer? Balanced or Single ended?

I prefer balanced. There is a significant difference between balanced and SE for both LCD-3 & HD800.

Oh! I would try out the different plugs later and see whether I can tell a difference between the both of them.

It drives my LCD-X superbly. This amp reeks of power and control. I turn the volume to 9 o'clock (barely 1/8 of a turn) and it is LOUD with the LCD-X. I have read a number of reviews stating that the Taurus Mk2 drives the HE-6 at least as well as the EF-6 amp.

My only word of caution is that my setup is quite neutral - Auralic Vega / Auralic Taurus Mk2 / LCD-X. Perhaps slightly too neutral for my tastes - I'm still burning in both the gear and my ears. Technically, the results are stunning, but more warmth might be a good thing. I would be careful about pairing a very neutral headphone to an Auralic setup unless neutrality is what you are looking for.

My next headphone might be something like an Oppo PM-1.

Oh cool I'm saving up for a taurus right now.

If LCD-X i too neutral, have you tried the LCD-3? I actually like the new Fazor version better than the LCD-X and definitely better than the original LCD-3. It's worth a shot if you've never tried it, or if you've only tried the pre-Fazor version.

LCD-3F not available at time of purchase at my location (New Zealand) - only LCD-3 pre-fazor or LCD-X.

I am not unhappy with the LCD-X at all. Apologies if I gave that impression. Listening to it via the Vega + Taurus is simply stunning. I am new to HeadFi, so as my new gear goes through burn-in I am also training my ears to appreciate the new sound. From what I have heard so far, I think my personal preference might lean towards a warmer sound, but I can only base that on my 'other' system (WA6 w/Sophia + HD600) which definitely has a warmer feel to it.

Since the Vega and Taurus are so transparent and neutral (at least to my inexperienced ears), I would be careful about pairing them with a very neutral headphone. YMMV.

Try not to get too wrapped up in the hour-by-hour impressions you get here of various headphones, particularly TOTL cans like the LCD-X. Just listen to your music, watch YouTube vids etc and accept that some days will be better than others - that's life, even with nothing more than an iPod and a $10 pair of Philips IEMs. It's fascinating that some Head-Fiers seem to regard their brains as somehow static participants in the whole process - no different to the cable between their DAC and headamp - that just isnt the case, IME. If it was, I could happily listen to virtuoso musicians that bore me witless 24/7 - regardless of the gear, that starts to sound like elevator music if I listen to it long enough  ;)

The best thing you can bring to this hobby is a good night's sleep and a really good recording of the music you love and cherish.
