There is no preamp in the Vega. The volume control does however effect the outputs, so that it can be used in place of a preamp. I believe the output voltage or impedance are also optimized so that you can go directly to an amp.

For people who don't hang out on facebook...

Auralic has unveiled that it's certainly making something new:

I have no idea what it is but for some reason I feel that it is an amp...

I have tried several high quality speaker amps (and headphone amps) but my Taurus mki bests them all. I think Taurus is worth getting for the HE6. And vice versa.

You know, listening in high volume all the time is not fun ;)

besides, Hifiman have made an amplifier specifically for their HE-6, called EF-6, supposedly based on many reviews, Taurus easily bests EF-6. And based on Auralic Vega, I tend to believe the reviews about Auralic ;)

He's not talking about achieving volume with the HE-6, that isn't the same thing as driving the 6 well.

Ok. I don't really understand the point of your post. But I will trust my own ears over supposed to reviews any day. I said nothing about volume but I am well aware of what something under powered sounds like. The HE-6 is amazing and the Taurus drives it ok, but more power is needed

Bingo

Well then try to listen to some speaker amp and compare with the Taurus, would be interesting to see if you find it true, too..

So how would you describe what you hear - and what amps have you compared the Taurus with using the HE6?
