Frank should rename the shop toxic waiting :D. I find another solution until Franks has hired some Elfs to help him.

One Taurus 2 should be moving in my direction

I also cancelled my cable order after waiting more than 5 months. I didn't mind the waiting, just the lack of feedback. My stock headphone cable has now turned all green, so I'll probably have to shop for a new one soon anyway, but it won't be a Toxic cable.

Lets us know how the Taurus sounds with the HE-500. I'm planning on getting one of these somewhere in the future to replace my Mini-X.

Dunno about that, though I do know Frank is usually quite busy. Definitely gotta order from someplace that makes you feel comfortable, taking into account potential waiting and all.

Got around to re-terminating the stock cable on my T1's for 4 pin xlr balanced operation with my Taurus. I did this early yesterday started to listen and I was very surprised at the amount of difference. The T1's sounded good through the standard trs connection but after adding the balanced connector and running them fully balanced there was a substantial improvement. It took me an hour just to get my brain to accept all the changes since I was so used to the way the T1's sound in stock mode. The soundstage didn't just improve it became holographic. It is a bit larger than stock but the big change is that the Taurus fills in all the detail in the soundstage that was there but not clearly defined. The T1 maintains it warm tonal balance but it is enhanced with a richer tone. I have owned the HE500 and I must say after the switch to balanced on the Taurus the T1's have a similar warmth to what I recall in the HE500 but with a very different soundstage.

If there are any T1 owners considering the Taurus I highly recommend the combination in balanced mode. the T1's seem to love the power of the Taurus. Now that I am running my HD800's and T1's both balanced on the same amp it is easy to see that they are completely different sounding headphones but each has it's own flavor. I listen to mostly classical music and the HD800 with the Taurus in balanced mode are spectacular for their transparency and detail. The T1's present a much warmer more relaxed listening experience great with chamber music.

What's the going rate for the Taurus MKII at the moment? Still $1899? I can't find any used at the moment, maybe just a waiting game. Having made my way half way through this thread, I think this will definitely be my next amp for my HE-500 and any future headphones (HE-6/HE-560/HD800). Please PM me if you don't feel like advertising the price you paid/where you got it!

So while waiting for the Auralic Vega (Which is already in Israel), the next question is if anyone has heard both the Vega and the PWD2, so the question is, which is the better DAC?

Send a PM to NZTechfreak. I believe he's currently got both. smily_headphones1.gif

LCD3 and taurus owners... Do you prefer using the 4 pin balanced or the TRS output on the Taurus Mk2?

I heard the taurus briefly, but I think I still preferred my Mjolnir.  I only listened w/ the 4 pin output and I know that this output is less than the TRS at 50ohms.  I was wondering if the TRS is the way to go w/ the LCD3.

You can run STD mode on both - so basically a 4pin is more flexible. I prefer both - according to the genre, recording etc. Basically the STD mode is smoother.

I'll be able to answer this next week, as I will have both the Taurus II and the LCD-3.

On the X I prefer the TRS. The balanced is a bit more detailed abd clean but looses the organic liquid sound that attract me to the X

So far I'm super impressed, for people who said it's not an analogue sounding DAC, that's BS. Very analogue sounding yet plenty of detail, and I mean definitely micro/macro detail I haven't heard previously. Soundstaging is ridiculous as well as Instrument layering.

The Sabre part of it, I can't hear the part that people said it was "Shouty". I can hear the detail associated with the chip.

I've previously had a listening session to Antelope Zodiac Platinum, my Auralic Vega thrashes it, and that's still with first couple of hours on :)

Previously I was listening to DSD to PCM conversion via foobar... at times it had some awful distortion wasn't nice listening to it, I'm glad to announce, that this fixed things, and made DSD what it was supposed to be - The King of all Audio Formats ;)

Briefly tried Exact Audio, while definitely improving on sound quality, that was on 44.1khz, when I switched to 192khz vinyl rip, it started skipping every second, wasn't very good.

Edit: Exact is now working fine after the DAC has been on for a while longer.

ATM I'm using the stock drivers from the website, are there better drivers?

If you downloaded 2.16 from their site those are the latest Thesycon drivers for Xmos based systems. Since you are using foobar you can install sox plugin (if you don't already have it) and upsample your 44.1 source material to 192khz and see if you have the same problem. Your can get the latest version here:

http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=67373

If that works properly then you have a problem with Exact Audio. If that does not work report back and I have some suggestions. Of course, you can also contact Auralic support for help. Personally, I have Foobar but I use JRiver for my music most of the time. It plays nice with dsp and the upsampling is smoother. You can download their demo for free and try it.

This may also have to do with your choice of output and buffer size (asio, kernal streaming, wasapi, etc)

If you get some skipping on exact what I do is pause the track for a few seconds to allow buffering. I also have J River set to automatically buffer DSD for 6 seconds prior to playing. That helps as well. Exact is way better so hopefully you can make it work.

"Shouty" will go away after 150 hours
