I am about to get it to use primarily with my HD800 and T1's. I plan to add the HE560 when it becomes available. Anyone here with experience using the Taurus with any of those headphones please share your thoughts. I almost went for the cma800r instead but too many people suggested it was only on the level of the Taurus with the HD800's. So...I am moments away from pulling the trigger on the Taurus mk1 since I would have to import the mk2 and as a result pay a much higher price in import duty and taxes. Anyone care to talk me out of it now is the time. I have tube amps but this would be my ss endgame (or so I would hope).

I got the first version. I am happy with it.

You can import directly the MKII from Auralic. Even with customs fee you will probably pay less than if you bought one from your official dealer.

I bought the first version, because someone in my country is selling a second hand one at a good price.

If you really want a MKII, just contact Auralic and check if there are doing a better price even with the import taxe.

Actually the local dealer is offering me the new mkI at a substantial discount. The difference between buying the new mk1 locally and importing the mkII would be almost 40%. A very substantial difference. My local dealer says the changes were for the 110v markets and that I would hear no difference with the mkI in my 220v market. Still nearly 40% savings for a new unit with warranty would take the bite out of getting the mkI. He admits he is just clearing his old stock so that he can bring in the mkII (which he claims was only just offered to our market). Unfortunately, there have been no direct comparisons posted between the two versions to verify that they really perform the same. I would hate to save a little money only to find that the new version actually sounds better. Pre-buyers remorse?

You should be able to sell that PWD fairly quickly.... unfortunately you won't make as much as you would have liked considering the MSRP. Demand is high on those, but discounts are universally available, with new units selling for up to 50% off on a regular basis. Good luck with it. You made the right choice with Vega though - it's a better DAC all around than PWD imho.

Very few people seem to have experience with that unit. There's a review on 6moons, seems generally positive from what I can tell. I don't think they really pushed that model in the English-speaking markets.

From someone who has had both models side by side (or rather, one atop the other), I wouldn't worry about it. They are very similar. I'd pay a little more for the mkII, maybe $200 max, assuming I was in a 220V/230V region.

The difference here would be about $800-$1000 with duty and taxes and I would have to import it myself so I went ahead on your advice and ordered the new mk I from my local dealer it should be delivered by Tuesday at the latest. If you want a laugh; I have two tube amps including a WA-2 but only one solid state amp an upgraded (opamp) Matrix M Stage. Honestly, the M Stage is so good with the HD 800  I am hoping I will be happy with the upgrade ( I would feel pretty stupid if it is not an obvious step up). I plan to run the Taurus balanced with the HD 800 so I have a balanced cable on order. Not to stir the pot but the M Stage with the HD 800 has been my preference to the WA-2. I use the WA-2 with my T1's. I am hoping the Taurus brings the HD 800 to the next level. We shall see. I will report back after it arrives.

M-Stage has some crazy synergy with HD800. I'm not surprised. And T1 tends to sound best with tubes (but not always) so I can see how that works with your WA2. Still, I would suspect the Taurus would do better than either. No guarantees though - I've owned the T1 3 times by now, and each one seemed to have character of its own. They don't seem to have the best QA. I have a 4th pair in right now for review and it seems better than any of the past models.... I quite like it. So depending on your T1, you might have different results.

Could be a good deal at that price. Let us know what you think.

I purchased it from the US at a good price - it's price here in NZ is astronomical still, so I should at the very least recoup what I paid for it.

I think if he waits a bit more, demand for it will increase and when stocks just run out ;)

Myself, I pulled the trigger I'm joining the club of auralic owners XD

Congrats! I hope it is to your liking, I've seen your quest for your next DAC spanning several forums for a while now!

My new Taurus Mk I arrived today. I connected it with balanced cables to my dac but as yet my balanced cables for my HD800 are on order. So...out of the box I am listening to it with the stock Sennheiser cable. Even fresh out of the box the power of this thing is obvious. It bring out bass in the HD800 I did not even know was there. I am going to burn it in for a couple of days before making any comments but even fresh it sounds very dynamic and tonally a touch on the warm side (which is fine with me). One comment I will make is that even out of the box this illustrates what an incredible match the M Stage is with the HD800. The Taurus is obviously better even cold, but it points out that the M Stage is a league above its' price by a long way. Anyone not able to spring for the Taurus really should give the M Stage a try if you are using HD800's. I will update after burn in.

I just began to listen to my new Taurus after it was plugged in for about 24hr. I've been in this audiophile game all my life and I have never heard any component change so drastically in one day (or probably ever). It says in the manual that even when the amp is off there is a small amount of current passing through. It is almost as if there were a battery in the power supply that needed to charge overnight. As far as I know there is no battery but it sure acts like something had to charge up. It sounded kind of good out of the box but after 24 hours it is a different and much better product. I have never heard this type of massive change in any component but color me happy. I have never been much of a believer in burn in but this overnight change was nothing subtle. I can't wait to see if it continues to improve.

I'm very curious to hear how you would compare the CMA800R with the Taurus MKII (in particular with the HD800). I'm all ears, as are many others I'm sure!

I would love to give you that comparison but I missed out on the cma800r sale last month. I actually went into the "nameless" online website to order and it had closed early. I simply have no way to compare the 2 unless I go pay for the cma800r and pay full price plus all the import duty as it is not sold here yet. Not real likely to do that after my purchase of the Taurus. In the end I was more interested in the versatility of the Taurus as I own several headphones and plan to add the HE560 when it is available. The Taurus gives you balanced and se inputs and outputs which is a real plus for me.
