People that are new to high quality IEM'S need to realize one thing, garbage in means garbage out, there is no way to sugar coat it. Any quality IEM will magnify a crappie recording or low quality transfer, these types of in ear monitors are for people who enjoy their high quality recordings, they're made for critical listening, now if you throw a crapy low quality mp3 recording the IEM will let you know it is low quality and crapy, no way to sugar coat it. Custom IEM'S are pretty much designed for musicians and music engineers, where everything they hear must be close to perfection. Now if you want to throw a crapy recording and listen to it with some regular in ear monitors, you most likely will not be able to make out if it really is a bad recording.
