Quick: King of close back headphones still in production - Page 14

I'm not saying the CD900ST's are the V6's that cost more, where did I ever say that? There are a lot of differences in the driver housing and earcups that give it an obviously different sound. I never said they were identical. I actually said I thought that until I heard them, and it was obvious that that thought was wrong. All I said was that I strongly suspected they used the same driver since every single spec that you can find about the driver except part number matches up. And for the part number, they are done by different companies...

Its not just they are both 40mm PET with CCAW voice coil drivers. They have the same impedance (63 ohm), frequency response range (5-30k Hz), Sensitivity (106dB/mW), and Power Handling (1000mW).

Also, quote by me about the CD900ST and the V6

The two candidates for King of Closed Headphones, the V6 and the CD900ST, both do not need amps so I don't really know what you are talking about.

@ v6 and cd900st drivers

they are the same, there is a headphone parts shop in japan (where i get cd900st pads) that sells sony v6/cd900st parts and the drivers are in one place for the v6/cd900st.

more source?

http://www.soundhouse.co.jp/shop/ProductDetail.asp?Item=680^1-542-492-11^^

which goes back to the question: why the heck cd900st and v6 have a literally night and day difference when it comes to sound? maybe sony japan made some magic with the cd900st, while american/chinese people who made the v6 just assembled it as it is. it could also be the pads used. someone should try using their cd900st pads on a v6 :)

damping scheme could also be different. i have never opened a v6 to check

booo :( i was looking for a serious answer & now this thread seems to turned into a v6 vs. cd900st discussion.

does either one of them even have a chance to dethrone some of the other heavy-hitters currently on whoelse's last list? love to hear comparisons of them vs something else but please no more the v6 vs. cd900st. they seem close enough to me that we can just lump them together lol.

well if you havent heard them, how would you know? maybe the ultimate solution is an unamped v6, maybe amping it will cause it to lose purity deadhorse.gif
