Thoughts on Sennheiser HD439? - Page 5

If the 439 is like the 429, the fit is too loose for good bass.

nope the are completely differnet in terms of comfort, as the velour pads on the hd 439's have a depth to them and also provide an excellent seal in my opinion

So, you just removed the grill and the sound comes out like better? What can you tell us about the sound? For example is it bassier, better lows, worst highs? We need more details if we are going to do something that CANNOT be undone.

PS: ~~ Have you also done the bass mode ot not? I am very satisfied with this mode (full bass mode, all 3 holes open) should I add this mode as well or not?

Honestly, a grill change makes no difference unless if you do the capsule mod, wherein you take off the capsule covering the drivers by first getting the glue off the sides of the capsule, then you can either cut the capsule out or pullout the cable from the driver and resolder the cable to the drivers. The sound after these mods would make the bass flabbier, highs and mids tighter, the sound is airier, details seem more apparent and overall things are more enjoyable. the grill can generally be from anything as long as it isn't as thick as the original grill.

This mod is more for those who like a airier sound and aren't very big on bass

So, doing this mode and the bass mod (full 4 holes open) would be the best for a basshead?

you would be perfectly fine without it

Ah yeah ok that's what I meant; open back, not open holes ^_^

I wanna try this...what grill did you use? Any idea where I could find something suitable? I did a bit of Amazon-ing but didn't find anything useful...
