I still wish Hifiman Would make like a Line Out Only DAP, ditch the whole Amp Card and offer a unit that is simply a UI and a Line Out Dac, so that way those of us who use amps, like all the time can save a little cash

I don't know if you already considered this, but there is a way to get digital out from the Hifiman HM-901. I am not sure if this is what you are looking for.

I use the hifiman 901 as a portable player in my office, but at home I connect 901 to a Schiit Gungnir DAC and the DAC to a WOO WA22 and it sounds amazing.

This is what I use to get the digital out: HM-901 S/P DIF Input/RCA Line out Cable

I hope this helps.

I've never been able to get coax out from my HM901 to my Hugo to work.  Just tried again to be sure but still no go.  Coax out from my DX90 and X3 to the Hugo both work.  Is there a setting in the HM901 that I need to set?

No, there is no settings. Just make you purchase the cable I sent you in the link. It is not the coaxial that came with the DAP. The one that comes with the DAP is a line in.

As far as I know I have the cable in your photo - the Hifiman proprietary connector on the one end, the three (red, black and white) RCA plugs on the other.  I also have a cable with the Hifiman proprietary connection terminated with a 3.5mm plug that I've used as line out to an external amp.

That's strange. I hope you can make it work. I didn't have to make any settings with mine. It just worked. I sugest you contact hifiman and se if they can give you an advise. Sorry I couldn't help frown.gif

Ok so I'm about to pull le Trigger on an hm901

my first question is does the Line out come with it? If so how long is it. I'm kinda used to a 1.5foot cord that I used with my hm801 which is a tad big, but I still think I'd like at least a foot so I can kinda stackish my Amp ontop of the player [or maybe play ontop of amp... hmm thats a good idea xD]

Anyways moving forward, my other question is FIRM WARE

which should I use :O, As far as sound Goes I'd like to keep it Dark but clean, I guess teh cleaner the better so which versison do you guys like the best? Also Stability is kinda nice to xD

The one you quoted above is the stock dock cable comes with all HM901, the two RCA connectors are line out while the coaxial is for digital INPUT (so to use 901 as DAC), it's not meant to be hooked up with another DAC with this dock cable.

You need a different dock cable which has digital OUTPUT to hook up with another DAC, like the following one:

There is a dock cable come w/ all HM901, which has Line out (RCA connection), as mentioned above by qrtas. It's a bit shorter than 1 foot, around 20cm I guess. There are some longer ones on the market, but not from Hifiman.

Hifiman just released an update for the latest Taiji 2 firmware, it's now V2.001 which added some nice features (long tag name scrolling display, support for album photos embedded in FLAC/APE/M4A files, and fixed some bugs):

http://head-direct.com/News/?act=detail&id=375

Somehow they indicate it's updated on 2014-9-3, but actually it's just updated a few days back. And they didn't say anything about what's been updated on the above page. But they did so on their BBS site:

http://bbs.hifiman.cn/thread-8192-1-1.html

1.调整了字体,支持全部多国语言
2.增加了FLAC/APE/M4A文件的内嵌图片的支持  - embedded album photo display
3.恢复了数字芯片滤波功能 - digital filter added in (which wasn't there in firmware v2.0)
- long tag name scrolling display
7.修复了在HOLD状态下插入底座会无限唤醒的BUG
8.修复了在SD卡无法读取情况下发生死机的问题

I've updated my HM901 w/ the new v2.001 firmware, love the support of embedded album photos. It's pretty stable even on v2.0 so I guess I won't have much problem w/ the updated one.

As to sound, some users said they heard difference between the new Taiji v2.0 firware and the earlier v1.085V3, I myself can't hear much difference. But I like the improvement of the new Taiji 2.0 firmware a lot more than the earlier ones. It's more stable, it's smoother in operation, and it fixed some serious bugs (on my HM901 at least). I won't go back to earlier firmware that's for sure.

That's good to hear then, stability is important. As far as the Cable goes, Under a Foot is Fine. I think the unit is larger enough that I can sit it on top of my PB2, instead of putting the PB2 on top of the Player I'll make it work just fine

Well that's great news! New Firmware and the approach of the S update here soon. An the Album Art is nice, good to see Hifimans UI is getting out of the Dinosaur age [not that I care honestly]

My only issue now is to wait for the funds to arrive xD Could be tommorow, could be Next Monday. But the wait time is killing me!

I know that, as most of my IEMs have very low impedence. I'll audition it to know.

@ Mshenay

A small tip: Some 901 users take out the amp card when using it for line out. This saves battery power - especially if you have one of the more powerful cards of course.

I might do that!
