He made total of 5 cards (4 versions of discrete cards + 1 version of angel card) that are circulated to public.  Listed in chronological order:

#1. First Gen Discrete Card version 1  - limited circulation, and is more like an alpha version)

#2. First Gen Discrete Card version 2  - a bit more being made, sort of like a beta version and sent to "testers" for minimal parts&labor fee)

#3. First Gen Discrete Card version 3  - this is the blue one and marked as "HP-A P-JI V1.1F Ksen_sang" one the card, was considered vastly improved upon the earlier ones)

#4. Angel Card - following critical reception of #3 he made the Angel card that is supposed to be tuned for chinese/asian female vocal/pop

#5. Second Gen Discrete Card - the yellow card, which is also regarded as better than any of the First Gen ones

I have #3, #4, and #5 and found them technically on par and I would prefer one over another depending on the album/tracks/my mood/which side of the bed I woke up from so YMMV

Thanks both of you.  There is a discrete HM-made card available internationally?

If you are good the 901 can last for the whole run!

does this bad boi come with the Line Out Cable new?

Is it worth to throw money on to this beast now or I should wait for a newer version to release as the HM-901 is in the market for quite some time already. No way I'm gonna throw my money on the AK240, I will starve to death biggrin.gif..
And both the AK120 and Calyx M didn't impress me a lot with my SE535LTD in sound wise, they sounded great but not darn great that I'm gonna play that price for it. Have a DX50 currently and the noise floor bothers me a lot..
If there is no new/better flagship model coming, I'll get the 901.
I'm mostly using IEM for now, which card should I pick or its best for me to audition with all the cards?

There is a HM-901s on the way, but when it will be available is blowing in the wind - especially for customers outside China. It will be with the mobile version of the DAC chip in the HM-901.

For IEMs, the IEM amp card might be your best bet, but if you want to have more power in order to drive full size headphones now and then, then there are many amp cards to choose from.

I use the Balanced amp card for both HE-6 (!) and my CIEMs.

Anybody who has bought this LOD and recommend it?

Hmm, is it okay to run my Se535 in balanced mode? I've read some where IEM with crossover might not improve as like headphones, but I've seen people using SE846 in balanced mode from AK240 and it turned out to have very impressive results.

The translate of this is (just based on my chinese knowledge, the original meaning might vary) :

"I've seen the HIFIMAN new product launching event, HM-901S is just a minor upgrade, improvements are as below :

 1) New mould (I suppose they mean new design), Improve on reliability.

 2) When not playing, the player will switch off itself to improve on battery life.

 3) 3 secs boot up time, eliminating freeze (i think the HM-901 do freeze?)

 4) Improve the scrolling wheel structure

 5) HM-901 user can upgrade at no cost (really? Idk if Hifiman really promised this) "

Translation :

" News for HM901s, not using the same shell (I suppose they mean design) as 901.

(in attachment)

-After some thoughtful consideration for quite some time, we have decided and redesigned the 901s. The new design will have major improvement in every aspect. Old user can upgrade with a cost, everyone can relax.

(user's comment)

-I just wanted to tell that I got bored with the 901 design, 802 and 650 all looks the same, it's good to change the look. "

*Those are just brief translation, might vary from what the original user from the respective site actually meant. :dt880smile::D

With the balanced amp card you can run headphones in either single ended ("normal") or balanced mode. When I use my CIEMs (or other IEMs), I use single ended mode, not balanced mode. I only use balanced mode with headphones. For balanced mode it also requires that the plug is balanced (TRRS plug).

Thanks for the translations form the Chinese site(s).

Yea, I know that, maybe I should just get the balanced card first and get the IEM card later.

Hope the 901s is a upgrade instead of a "downgrade", even if it's a minor 1.

One thing I want to mention is that I find that the Balanced card has too much gain for IEM use.  I find it very difficult to get a comfortable but satisfying volume.  There's not fine enough volume control.  I need to stay down very low on the volume wheel and one setting louder is too much.  I find that the IEM card gives me finer grained volume control with IEMs.  I'm not sure if that consideration will make a difference in your choice of amp cards.
