So I would like to know your opinions about it and, if possible, hear some impressions from different cards paired with the SE846.

I think the issue is you can BREAK your IEMs with the balanced card if the volume goes too an insanely loud.

I don't see how the IEM amp spec wise would be any superior than the balanced one.

It's supposed that the IEMs are too sensitive that a lower power amp will drive them best. But I'm insecure about that... that is why I'm asking for impressions.

Balanced card can be tooo powerful for 9 ohm SE846 and I agree, maybe it can be broken. I am not expert though, just guessing and thinking.

Balanced and JH16 work fine! Again, not too loud.

Please bare in mind that the balanced card uses the same ops as the 801 I believe (I can't attest to the exact circuit, but unless someone throws up a glaring red flag, I think its fine).

I think if you want the best of both worlds get the balanced amp. There is a reason for the NORMAL mode button right?

I'm insecure about which card pick cos I have heard several of you talking wonders about the balanced card but non even a comment about the iem card (neither good or bad), the problem is to get the custom balanced cable and the balanced card or the custom single cable and the iem card. In my experience with the Pico DAC/Amp and the se535 I've found pleasant reduce aprox. 10% the gain in Neutron MP but it seems like something is missing too but I'm reducing the gain digitally on an android app and the Pico can't run balanced so it's an uncertain comparison.

I think there's no comments on the IEM amp card because it's just released = Noone here has heard it.

Yes the IEM board was barely into its 3rd week of availability even in China and not a lot people had it. From what I gathered it is like half an balanced board with half the opamps and buffers chips and half the circuitry. LOL was expecting it to be half the price but no dice...

I had used the balance board in normal se mode with the sony xba4 (8ohm impedance) and have't fried it nor have volume issues. Interested to get my hands on the IEM board to a/b them a bit later if I got a chance.

It's a gain thing. The output impedance will be twice as high as an unbalanced equivalent as well but not an issue if low enough to begin with. I wouldn't worry about blowing up an IEM. That's strictly a function of where you set the volume control.

We need extra batteries. Up to 7 hours usage time is just not cutting it. :(

Hope Hifiman starts selling them batteries soon.

In my hm801, the game card (similar to the iem card of the 901) sounds slightly better than the balanced card when comparing se mode to se mode. The sound is cleaner, more refined and has more details. Bass hits harder.

They are clearly the same family though- they sound similar, just the game is better. Mind you, both sound very good- easily on par with other portable amps I've owned.

I'm waiting for the balanced adaptor for my se846s before I can tell you how the balanced sound compares with the single ended game sound, but based on what I've heard from the re600 so far, I'm expecting balanced to be significantly better.

Hey jelt2359,

What SE to TRRS adaptor will you be using?

Am looking for one myself.

Dumb question, why would you need this? Unless you know that the SE848 is balanced, this would be useless for an IEM.
