Yep. Since 1.32, I am less tempted by 901 as I am truly satisfied with ak120 SQ. Plus I have a truly hectic life and cannot be bothered with bugs and battery like with the early days DX100. And finally I am sure the RWAK120 will close the gap with 901 to some extent...

Understand the feeling.

After a crazy day's work, i just want to relax and start the music, and the HM901 has to make me do a restart almost every time to get the music playing.

HiFiMAN HM-901 - a review in progress: Factory visit starting pg 18. IMGS pg 19

Ugh this is my biggest fear with the 901... Buggy firmware. I am sure they will iron out the wrinkles eventually, but playing firmware roulette for the near future doesn't sound very appealing...

I wonder whether there are active plans to rockbox the 901...

Even if it happens, it might take a long while. Previous HM daps are not 100% stable.

http://www.rockbox.org/ You can check under the unstable ports section mate. Their HM601/601/603/801 is working thought not 100%.

IMO, if HifiMan provides a nice bug-free user friendly interface I don't need a RB.

"Problem" with RockBox is - apart from not being bugfree (for HiFiMan DAPs) either - that it won't play hi res files natively. It will downsample any 24-bit file to 44.1kHz/16bit.

And I see absolutley no point then in paying all this for a player that plays high rez files to then take that feature away with rock box. I am so glad I took your advise on that Lars!

Ah I didn't know that RB wasn't even stable on the 801... Sigh, so much for an alternative...

To get HM901 or not - is the problem I am facing. Still looks like a unfinished product ( at least firmware wise)

Well a new stable firmware (1.080) is just released today. I think they are slowly getting there and I haven't had any deal breaking issues.

AFAIK, don't extract. Copy the zip file to the root of the SD Card.

Don't unzip! Just copy update.zip to a FAT32 formatted SD card and then reboot your player while holding "Home" button at the same time.
