The only reason it would do that is if you have the volume too high and many amps could do that. You have two buf634 per channel and depending upon the voltage, you could be near one watt output.

Yes I think I read Fang's comment on "frying" the 3003 and my took away was that it is more a jab in jest at how AKG used an ultra low impedance to arrive at their claimed sensitivity ratings instead of "properly" designing a dynamic driver IEM.

I still don't see HM-901 is available for purchase on Head-Direct.com.

By the way, up to date has HiFiman resolved all the build quality issues like click wheel feels off, overheating issue..etc that previously addressed by head-fiers?

It seems built issue are largely resolved. At least I'm happy with mine and with more units (in the thousands) sold in China I'm seeing LESS noise about wheels falling or what not.

Heat is still pretty much there and it won't really get fixed (until they release sth like a 903 slim with the new lower powered ess9108-m chips). It won't be warm if not stored in a pouch or in pocket. But can get warm if the heat it dissipated have no where to vent.

While I'm sure this was just a passing statement, tbh, this was the first thing I thought about when I saw the announcement from ESS. If they can get us 9018 SQ with better battery performance, you're going to have a helluva contender on your hands. IMO, of course.

Yup the big IF tho is how does these "m" spec chips perform. If they really are on par with the 9018 we may see some killer products soon. The race is on now for these makers to come out with a 9018m-based DAP.

For now I'll continue to enjoy the 901 smily_headphones1.gif

Sounds reasonable to me on all counts wink.gif

On hindsight, am now wondering if HiFiman delayed the HM-901 launch hoping to use the 9018m DACs instead.

And given the delay and other offerings on the way, decided to just go with the existing Sabre instead.

Am really looking forward to trying out the HM-901 soon.

I think the mobile 9018 was announced after the HM-901 was available in China.

It was mentioned before that the construction of the custom stepped attenuators are what's likely the cause of the delay.  Looks to be a true stepped attenuator, and man is it tiny.  Along with the on going work on the UI.

Speaking of which:

(OK, it's a DAC, not a DAP, but it's good to see a manufacturer already being open about intentions to develop a product using the new 9018m DAC chips)

.

Yes I'm quite keen to get the E19 if just for an indication of the performance of an 9018-m.  James and team has the better track record to releasing products on schedule amongst these chinese makers.

However, at this moment this is my winning combo:
