Same here.... well actually not the first time, but first time with the 334+a decent spc balanced cable.  It IS sensational....  You really need to include the Anakchan cable in our deal man!

For those interested, this is the balanced fitear cable:

so kkc, do you like baboon ass(nickname spreading huh?) better than the ak120? ignoring size, hows the ui comparison between the two , can the hifiman do 901 with not so cleanly tagged files? kinda interested on it

Nothing wrong with it. I got the SE5 and they both have similar sound signature. SE5 was better in almost everything so there was no point in keeping the ES5.

lol that's quite a nickname!  With my 334 balanced, I can now confidently say I like the 901+balanced amp board's over the AK120.   It is just a different beast in the balanced mode.  AK120 is on par with 901+standard amp board - AK120 more refined and smooth, 901+standard more powerful and raw.  Balanced? It isn't even that close imho.  biggrin.gif

UI wise it also isn't that close - AK120 wins hands down.  However, 901's UI had been responsive and stable thus far and exceeded my expectation.  It just look really spartan and is an utilitarian approach - just let you quickly navigate to your files and play it.  You don't even want to do tag browsing as long as you have a reasonable folder structure.  It would even show album art as a background image when browsing a directory with a folder.jpg pic in it.  So for me folder browsing is the way to go.  Can't comment on the "not so cleanly tagged files" aspect as I had really "clean" most of them up since the DX100 days, but as I mention it's moot on 901.

Seems like the amp part of hm901 can't keep up with the dac part. Would be interesting if third parties develop amp board for 901

The standard amp board definitely don't do justice (for my iems) for the dac.  I read from erji the standard amp board was tuned for the K3003 and IE800, which I don't own.  It was expected the standard amp board won't suit multi-BAs.

There is the "Minibox" amp board developed by the designer of the Minibox amp which apparently had some good reps in China.  Originally I was waiting for the "IEM board" which was said to be specifically tuned for multi-BAs but I got impatient and jumped for the balanced board and is very happy with it.

I guess whether any third party would be interested enough to release a card would depends on how well the 901 sell.  Though there is already a DIYer on erji attempting to built his own and came up with a prototype that he said still needs more changes/tuning.

Beyond the aesthetics and ergonomics, another reason I am resisting the 901 is that I will want the balanced card, which means I want to upgrade my cables...and then live under a bridge.

It really is a bottomless hole isn't it?!!  I already got two balanced cables in less than 1 week I got my 901...... will need at least one more..... mad.gif

I kind of discounted the balanced cable concept initially, and got myself a relatively inexpensive UE replacement cable balanced for my W4R to mainly test if the amp board actually works.  It was a big concern to me dreading things would go horribly wrong with stuff not working etc.  I almost expected things to go wrong after reading horror stories on 901 issues.  Extremely happy that hasn't been the case with me.

I find some improvement with balancing comparing the stock W4 and the balanced UE replacement cable.  This got me interested to get a balanced cable for the fitear.  The balanced spc with 901+334 simply sounded amazing and I know I'm gonna get a "proper" balanced cabla with UE/westone connectors for the incoming ASG-2 and 1plus2.  Probably would just get the tralucent cable balanced by Gavin before I take delivery.

huh, thats okay i guess, but i am really used on tag browsing, being rather new to this whole audiophile file browser only stuff, so when the ak100 have a really nice ui, i was instantly attracted to it, my next purchase interest is not on the ak120 though

Well the 901 does have tag browsing and fully functional. Database scanning is faster than either AK. Tag browsing is also fast and responsive. Just that with 100 Gb of stuffs I find folder browsing more efficient. It is also a result one single slot not allowing me to do what I did for AK120 - scan only half of my Music on card 1, and leave the other one for frequently changing stuff to avoid the very slow scanning for AK120. Hope iriver can implement a delta only scanning to speed it up.
