Yeah but I've since pushed the wheel back in so it's kind of OK now. I know people with this problem have superglued it back tongue.gif

I had known these problems beforehand and still I decided to pull the trigger. Must have been crazy lol.

I couldn't wait to try the balanced card only after 5 minutes of listening. The installation took a while cos the battery was kinda hard to remove. The manual wasn't helpful at all on this.

Sound quality (w/ the balanced amp card) was like what other have said: very rich and full bodied with good microdetails.

The UI was responsive, fairly simple and easy to use. No major complaint here. Cover art is missing though, but I am sure Fang and his team are working on this.

I thought the build quality was excellent too, until the damned scroll wheel came off after 3 hours of use...WTF...so much for the triple QC stamps on the warranty card rolleyes.gif

Will need to talk to their customer service tomorrow..

Since the scroll wheel is under dynamic load, most probably apply superglue might not solve this problem permanently.

This is a serious reliability issue, Hifiman should fix it by redesign the scroll wheel and then perform operating cycle test to make sure the wheel will not fall off for at least 50K times.

All my cover art showsbigsmile_face.gif

Originally I didn't even think that cover was part and parcel of the 901 until I put in one of my SDcards.................

How is your cover art filed? Embedded in flac/mp3 etc. files, as a jpg file in the folder or what? If as jpg, what name do you use? Album, cover or?

pekingduck, what headphones/iems are you using with the 901 balanced?

Maybe a leather case that's thick enough edges are protected but the side walls themselves opened up for ventilation.Edwood's post has gotten me drooling to get my setup (yet) again.

The 901 is so harmonically rich from the lower mids to mid bass, however, it does not impinge into the mids at all, and the vocals maintains an ethereal presence that is rather delectable to the ears.

Trebles has nice weight and shimmer.

Soundstage is not huge but has that air of intimacy that engages the listener from the first note.....

I'm glad you liked it and are willing to comment vs others. I thought it exceptional on a short listen. I'm holding off for now but may have to partake.

JH Audio JH10X3 and Westone ES5. Both SE only since I haven't got a balance cable for them yet

Guess you're not the only crazy one.  I bite the bullet and ordered it fulling know all issues reported thus far....  I thought I had been sufficiently prepared myself for any built issues but my heart still skipped a beat looking at your 901+wheel+QC.jpg......

Hoping to receive mine by tomorrow and finger crossed it would at least play music properly.

Pekingduck, Could you please email the 24/88 ALAC files to head.direct@gmail.com? We will fix the ALAC problem in the next firmware.

About wheel problem, we will need your player S/N number so that we can find out the worker and QC checker of your player asap. We are redoing QC checking for all of our current stocking after we found your post.
