And how did you get a cadence cable? My friend is the owner of Infinity cables. I didn't know the cadence reached out even to HK. Make is good yah? Very meticulous to details.

Sure! Lets have a meet over coffee next time you visit. Also, please say Hi to Sean for me, he helped me a lot to start this hobby.. These cable connector names are still doing my head in now...

It"s DIY but well made. I'd rather not have another cable, no matter how short or pure, in the signal line. These go straight from plug to plug.

I thought you had 335s or something. Must've been someone else. I wish Spiral would do overseas customers man. I'm sure my ears are big enough.=/

@CosmicHolyGhost Will do. Nice to see someone put Cadence in their sig.

Just received my 2nd replacement HM-901.  All excited to see if this one worked properly and..... no sound with either of my amp cards (IEM and Balanced)!  I don't see what I might be doing incorrectly but I'm open to suggestions before I arrange to send this one back.  Any ideas as to what I might be overlooking? I know that I'm not above making a stupid user error!  This has certainly been a frustrating experience though.

Perhaps trying rebooting it - there's a little pin hole for that next to the power switch. Hold down for about 10 seconds. It's merely anecdotal but it has helped me in the past to reset the HM-901 when I've had a mysterious failure. Hope it works! :)

Thanks for your reply!  Unfortunately it didn't work.  Also, the battery's been pulled several times (for changing between my two amps).  I would imagine that would reset everything as well.  I get the feeling that this guy's going back to Hifiman as well.

Oh dear... Drop a line to the customer service email address - my own experience has been sterling thus far. I am sure they will be able to resolve this. I'm sorry you have to wait for the joy of listening to the HM. All I will say, from my sessions with the HM-901 and HM-802, it will be worth the wait. :)

try to use the lineout (bypass amp) to see if you can hear anything. if you can hear anything, make sure you install the amp cards correctly.

if you can't hear anything from the lineout, you might have a defective HM901.

scenarios to consider:

*correct installation of amps

*possible defective amp cards from 1st HM901

The bad part is that I've had a taste of the sound but two previous units were defective in one way or another.  And each time Hifiman support was very responsive - no complaints there.  Just frustrating to possibly have to wait for another unit.

Have you kept the same battery and amps across both units? Either one of those components could be the culprit. I seriously doubt Hifiman would send you a unit that doesn't playback sound after, what, 3-4 QC checks on the warranty card? Good luck, I hope you find a satisfactory solution.

Just tried line-out into an amp - worked fine.  Interesting.

I'd be surprised if the 3 amps are the issue - they all worked in the previous 2 units.  I suppose it's possible that something happened to them in the interim but they've been sitting in their storage boxes during the several week wait for the 3rd unit.  But for all 3 to go bad?

I'm not sure how I would have them installed incorrectly as they can only be inserted one way due to the offset notch in the card.  As far as I can tell, I'm installing them the same way as when they worked in the previous units.

Wonder if there's something wrong with the circuitry that the amps plug into?

Yeah - same amps and batteries across all 3 units.  In the previous 2 units the amps seemed to work fine.  I'd be surprised if something happened to all three amps while waiting for the new unit.  And I won't rule out user error but I can't see what I would be doing wrong with the amp install - they make it difficult to put it in the wrong way.  Are there any installation mistakes that people have been known to make?

I would be surprised too that Hifiman wouldn't have checked the new unit out prior to shipping it to me. I have no doubt that the final outcome will be good - just a little frustrating in the mean time.

That's really bad luck. Sorry to hear that. But at least customer service has not been giving you grief. And the wait can only intensify the joy you will get in due course. :)

I can picture them rolling their eyes when they see another email from me in the morning - I suppose I would too!

Na... Knowing them, I'd think they'd be more likely to be embarrassed than anything else. :)
