I agree with you about an all-in-one solution..it's such a hassle to swap cards I've decided to stick with just one.

did you notice any differences when switching from low gain to high gain with the balanced card and iem's ? Does it have any effect sq-wise ?

How are you guys managing playlists?  I use itunes to manage my music, and was wondering if anyone figured out a solution to convert the itunes playlists into a format that the hifiman recognizes.

Apologies if this has been addressed before, but regarding that balanced/SE side switch, what exactly is the purpose of it?  So, every time I want to swap cards from a balance card to the iem card, one has to make sure to have that switch match with the type of card ( balanced card/balanced switch on; iem card/balanced switch off or on SE setting)?.

Simply put, you should switch it to "Balanced" ONLY if you have the balanced amp card installed AND a pair of TRRS-terminated (balanced) phones plugged in.

Hmmm I don't think the 901 has playlist support except "Favorites".

I have a feeling that all one really needs is the balance card....

Thanks. I miss the more simple design of the HM-801 /w balanced card (minus that big headphone out hump).

I find it quite hard to volume match due to the discrete volume control. The sound at low gain may be a little more refined but I can't say for sure. In any case the difference isn't significant.

Yep +1 to that question.

It's a close call :) At this moment I feel my 901 w/ balanced amp still has an edge in musicality but the X5 is surprisingly good. It's neutral sound signature done right.

I think I have a problem....I'm starting to prefer the classic card over the balanced card......

Damn! That's really the only thing left, that I'd really like. Either support m3u OR even a plain text file within a directory to let me specify the order of the songs without having to rename the actual files. I'm even ok with duplicate files and create a new folder for each playlist.

possible to share what kind of music classic card excels over the balance card?

The new classic card is really good but it is quite "noisy"...
