Mim, looking forward to read your impressions with SE5way. So you have balanced one and iem now right? So you can tell me if it is worth getting balanced card and TRRS terminated cable.

Would you mind giving me a battery life with balanced card and SE5way? Roughly I mean, no need to be pinpoint accurate.

Yep, for my Spiral Ear SE5, I have a cable in two parts. It has a TRRS termination and there is a TRRS to 3.5 adapter. When I use the balanced card in balanced mode, I use the TRRS straight. On other DAPs I use the adapter, or I get only one side.

My question is, if I am on the 901 in SE mode (switched to normal, with whatever card), do I really need the adapter. It works fine without, but is it technically damaging something?

So far cannot pinpoint huge sound difference. I get more precise volume control with the iem card, still not perfect but better. With the balance card I get 5 hours...so I am hoping more with iem card...

5 hours only, man that's a big bummer, I was hoping maybe 8-9 it would make me consider it. Maybe I should look for another amp card or HM802 version, which uses dual wolfson instead of sabre chips which are more power needy.

I did it without the adapter. No problem at all. Though don't blame me if yours is fried..

I accidentally did so before also...nothing bad happened
I was told that if you plug trrs to some single ended amp or dap , you may not get sound or only one side.

Dr Fang Bian and customer service at Hifiman recommend not doing so because of concern there's too much power for iems... But we love but once, and so, I tried it with the Fitear F111 and AKG K3003: very good results - the sound was open, rich and textured. Of cos, the AKG is difficult to drive as is the F111. Suyuma San designed it as a tribute to the Etymotic ER4S which is also notoriously difficult to drive. I haven't tried it with any of the other iems yet.

Could you not try it with the others? Is it bad? What defines difficult to drive for iems? Impedance?
Damn now I want minibox too.

The minibox is nice. Great single ended amp section.

What about using it with IEM's, background noise? hiss etc? I remember you have some jh13pro. I have the jh16pro's, very sensitive for background noise...

I use them 16's daily. Zero with the balanced amp.

Tried the Minibox card briefly with my JH10X3 (slightly more sensitive than the JH16 (119dB/mW vs 118dB/mW). No hiss or noise whatsoever.

Which card do you prefer single ended, balanced or mini box ? I am searching for an all in one solution for a little more power hungry phones and of course my collection of iem's.

No doubt the balanced card. I prefer the sound signature of it and it's more powerful. It drove my HE500 (now sold) to pretty good level.

I agree with you about an all-in-one solution..it's such a hassle to swap cards I've decided to stick with just one.
