Maybe I read his request wrong though:

I THOUGHT he was asking running his CIEMs in BALANCED MODE (balanced card in balanced mode)? If so, that is a VERY VERY bad idea.

If not, then he doesn't need a cable as we both mentioned, just use normal mode.

Oh man, I hope this is not true as I just bought a cable with TRRS about to use it with my CIEM... But I've seen many users with their iem/ciem running balanced and they were fine?

Has anyone ever had a problem with shorting the trrs?

I should add that I have not had a problem but I was wondering if anyone has. I know the TRRS is being used by  few manufactures now and Redwine uses it to turn the AK120 into a balanced source and the new AK240 uses a 2.5 TRRS.

I have used trrs on ASG-2,Heir 5.0, Fitear Paterre, TG!334 and F111. So far, it seems to be fine. Will try it on my new CIEM, too.

Making your DAP do the conversion process is counterproductive since you have to store the huge file (3 to 5gb's) AND use up the battery power of the DAP to do the processing. Seems better to me to do this BEFORE I store and play it on the DAP. Does this make sense...?

Yup. I read that HM-901 is not native DSD if thats the case.

I was fully aware that it doesnt suppprt dsd before as it wasnt advestised as such. So i have no issue.

Hifiman RE-600 IEM's run balanced from the HM-901 without issues.

I have balanced and run about 8 different balanced phones, including the RE600 and never had a problem but I was wondering if anything ever pops up. I am glad to read that no one has problems on everything they have tried. TRRS is simple, easy to wire and seems a good way to go.

Where do you get your TRRS plugs. I am looking all around and all I found are those cheap ones. I'm afraid they have poor quality.

I haven't bought any for a long time. I got some maybe 10 years ago, never used them, and then found a use. They are nonmagnetic but I know what you mean about cheap ones. I did have to alter mine by taking off a metal collar that I cut off with my dremel but after that they are fine.

This is what I use. The metal collar is ferrous metal but cuts right off leaving just the nonmagnetic TRRS connector. From there I solder my wire and use heatshrink to cover. It is very rugged, very light and I like it better than other connectors. The plating is nickel, which I don't like but frankly, that is what is under the gold flashing they use so I don't mind as there aren't any truly high end TRS or TRRS on the market that I know of. They are fragile so all copper would not work and silver would be very expensive. What they often do is add a steel center pin that goes to the tip, with is your left channel and that is not what you want, steel, in the signal path, if you can help it.

What shows is the TRS but it says 4 pole so they have the same thing in TRRS? That is good. I don't use the housings any longer as you lose the weight and you get a much lower profile. My plugs end up sticking out only 8 to 9mm and at a right angle, they really get out of the way.

These are TRS but the TRRS comes out the same.

I have been running my SE5 balanced with a DHC cable and it works perfectly and sounds great. I just purchased the latest TWAu from Whiplash to run my NT6 balanced as well....;

Let the cable burn in. It gets better and better and better. I never thought I would recable my TH900 but glad I had it done.
