Now my question is, how does it compare to HM802?

HM802 is more to the musical side when it comes to presentation. Think of it more like an upgrade of HM801 than a stepdown of HM901. I personally really like HM802's sound when I had the chance to demo one late last year. Don't really find it much of an downgrade from HM901 and probably better than HM901 for those who are looking for a tighten sounding HM801.

So it is like a side step with more musical presentation rather than downgrade. I assume resolution wise it is as good as HM901?

HM802 price is quite nice, probably it will have 1-2 hours of extra battery life too thanks to dac chips. I am considering it honestly.

Can anyone confirm that 256 gb sd cards will work with HM901/802?

If you like HM801, then there is a good chance you will like HM802 more. But If you are just looking for a neutral, all around TOTL DAP, then HM901 will probably stand out more. The thing is, HM801 is more about musicality and texture while HM901 is more about clarity and resolution.

post #2047:  "Yes. Lexar 256GB Professional card works well."

post #2046:  "Yes the 256Gb sd card works in HM-901. does not seam to be any slower than 128 Gb card"

Well, thank you burtomr, I didn't do my research good enough this time I think. This dap is really getting interesting.

I will see my options mate, thank you. It can be a good option for balanced portable setup, all in one device without costing an arm and a leg.

So far, ALAC seems to work in 24/192, 24/96. I couldn't manage to play 24/44.1, it becomes to fast. I am also picking up a lot of hiss when no music is playing, really much. I also can hear the steps of the volume wheel. I don't know, it sounds superb!! So far I am a little bit annoyed because of the hissing that I am getting with my JH16pro FP and the standard amp. Don't know what to do at the moment... I am pretty spoiled with the AK120, it is dead quiet.

I ordered the plain vanilla one with the standard card as I already have all the currently issued amp cards. smily_headphones1.gif

Great, I would love to hear your thoughts on your new purchase especially how it compares to 901. I have been reading quite a few Chinese reviews and I am guilty for not going up to the shop for a demo last night. I am not sure if I should try out different sound by other manufacturer and will wait for Sony new DAP to arrive in Hong Kong before making a hopefully informed purchase.

Congrats on your purchase :)

My standard amp card also produces hiss so I guess it's just normal. Did you also order the balance card? Not only it's dead quite but also a huge improvement over the standard card.

I'm not sure what you mean by "hearing the steps of the volume wheel" but the volume control is indeed a stepped attenuator.

The 901 plays 24/44.1 FLAC perfectly, so in the mean time you can try converting your ALAC files into FLAC first (if feasible).
