Got it.. I dont know if it is placebo or not. when comparing 24/96 FLAC and DFF files, I can hear some sound improvement... you know every little bit counts

Some hear a difference, some don't. I think it depends on a number of things and you need the entire chain to be pretty good. I agree, I can hear differences but I need my better gear in the works.

I am using Paterre because I use them everyday for months now. One thing I have noticed is that the vol is a lot softer when using DFF. I need more time to conclude if this is a good or bad thing.

sacd_extract -2 -p -i"SACD.iso

But the exported DFF files wont play on HM-901, any tips?

Also, is it normal to hear more hiss when playing DFF?

Note: I am not here to debate what sounds better than what, blah, blah, blah. I am only giving advice on what works; i.e.: plays on any stereo DAP.

When I download .iso files, including DVD-A 5.1, I use a free program called DVD Audio Extractor to convert any and all contained files to two channel flac files. It works perfectly and they play perfectly every time.

Thanks, burtomr. I have those in flac format but the local distributor is advertising that "dsd is now supported on 901 with the latest firmware" hence, i wish to explore the same

Don't think DVD Audio Extractor works with SACD though.

Hi pekingduck, how do you like the dsd playback so far? Wish to gather some comments as I am still exploring

ok, thanks

I did not try before but the current firmware only hiss occasionally during quiet passage. I am not sure if it is just the old recording that I am listening to or.... you may give it a try when you have time

Thanks for the heads-up! Sounds like the latest firmware has improved DSD playback a lot. Can't wait to try it out once I get my 901 back (currently being serviced by HIFIMAN)

Just wanna say, this lastest update is freaking awesome.

they sometimes seem to deliver updates witht he same number but indeed different firmware..

What problems did you have before the update - my main problem was skipping tracks and that appears to have improved.

Regards

I can't be the only one that finds the scroll wheel more responsive. And true circular scrolling plus no more hanging (thus far) makes this update pretty good.

Yup circular scrolling soothes the torment caused by my indecisiveness

Too bad dff extracted from dual layer sacs does not work... There goes my evening...
