Can the balanced amp be used with non balanced headphones like dt1350?

Yes of course. Remember there is a balanced on/off switch next to the headphone jack? That's for the balanced amp module.

Hifiman,

I love you!  The new beta update just saved me $1500 on a tube amp because I was looking for a warmer sound. After reading a few other quotes I'm keeping the last two updates and depending on which headphones I'm using (or mood I'm in) I will switch back to the older version.

I still hoping in one of the newer updates a digital EQ is available :)

So now I will pick up the Balanced amp card, yeah Hifiman thank you.

Black is Coax input.  I've used it with my Halide Bridge USB to SPDIF converter.  Not quite the same sound quality as using the USB connection for the Dock, but certainly a lot more portable.

Hopefully there will be a portable USB Dock for the HM-901 sometime in the future.  Unfortunately, the HM-901 does not support over 24/96 through SPDIF, so playing off SD Card is the only way for higher sample rates over 96KHz.

That is a big bummer. But I assume you can just copy onto the SD card while its connected to the dock?

No, in USB DAC mode it's just a USB to SPDIF mode, no connection to SD Card.

In Player mode it does not connect USB data connection either.

But you can switch back and forth to quickly copy 24/96 files over and play at higher sampling rates, right? Otherwise, this IMO would be a serious design flaw.

You mean copy files over 24/96 like 24/192, correct?  It's not possible to copy files through the dock yet.  But it may be possible with a future firmware update.

But yeah, that would be a work around for USB to SPDIF being limited to 24/96.

Edwood, please, please talk to Fang about this. I don't understand why you would not be able to copy files over connected to the dock. This seems like a gross oversight to me.

I couldnt find a comparison about the amplifier units of HM901.

Which is better? Or is there is a comparison post for them?

Is balanced worth the price difference?

There are a couple of threads at erji forum which did pretty comprehensive comparisons between all or most of the amp cards:

Here are some comments about all the official hifiman amp cards by Dr Fang himself:

They are all in Chinese. Maybe google translator can give you some answers.
