Oh. Didn't see that. Guess I'll just have him PM me then. :/

The 901 is probably the only DAP I own that I genuinely feel doesn't require an external amp to help it along. The 901 has an almost SET type tubey sound quality that is so so additive

.

It runs a little hot for comfort, would be my only criticism at the moment!

Now, can you imagine that combined with your new tube amp!!! Musical heaven!

What's your impression regarding the output impedance? Do you think it's close to zero, more like 10 Ohms or ...?

Didn't have my xba4 with me when I demo'ed so not sure how it pairs with ultra low impedance IEMs.  Didn't find any issues with the FT334, ER4S, or Re400 (obviously... lol)

Hey LarsHP,

I think I remember reading in this thread that there is a balanced IEM amp coming out along with a balanced non-IEM amp.

I'm waiting for the balanced IEM as well to go with my jh16

Seriously - I'm looking very much forward to reading your impression.

You do have the Standard amp also?

I am almost pulling the trigger on the 901, and I am wondering if I should get the Balanced card also, or I should wait for the IEM card being available. I have the Burson Soloist for full size headphones and only if the Balanced amp card sounds noticably better than the Std., and also there is enough "turn" on the volume dial to get the preferred sound level on sensitive IEMs (incl. low or at least somewhat low sound level), then I would go for it.

I will be (happy, but) surprised if there is going to come a balanced IEM amp. I did read a post saying something that could be understood that way, but understood it as balanced sound, not a balanced amp.

jamato8 may be able to answer this?

Guys how can I tell if it is a retail model that's being made recently or the prototype model made earlier??

If it's new, unopened box etc., then I expect it to be a relatively new unit since they have been busy keeping up with demand. If it's a used unit, then I have no idea.

The earlier models were sold out so unless you buy it used or one that been sitting in a store in China, you most likely will be getting a new one. Also on the older ones, the on off switch is spring loaded and returns to the original position but can also be pushed to locked position but the new one is just spring loaded and returns to the original position with no locked position available.

Pulling the trigger now. But whether the seller in taobao is willing to ship to Australia is another question. Anyway, I will try first. Or jamato8, r u willing to sell urs to me?lol

It started off being a loaner :p. No less than 12 hrs later, it's his. However I have just ordered myself another replacement which should come in July.

And the reason why I was prepared to sell my current and wait till July is 'cos it's mostly related to zachchen1996's question. So I found the pairing between the HM-901 & 1Plus2 to sound quite nice to my ears - a full, wholesome and robust sound closer to what one would get from a desktop DAC/Amp. A year ago I described the same of the DX100 but with the HM-901, I personally felt I had an even larger staging but with the music filling the room. If I choose a single word to describe the SQ, "rich" comes to mind.

So I've asked Spkrs01 to make a balanced connector for the Tralucent Uber cable which will take some time. Therefore the HM-901 has gone to him so that he can test the connection wiring for in/out phase and L/R channel connection points. Hopefully Fang hasn't changed the orientation and kept the balancing the same as the HM-801 balanced module. Since he likes what he's heard and I don't need the HM-901 until my balanced Uber cable is ready, he's taken ownership of it. By the time the Uber is done, I should get my 2nd HM-901 with balanced amp module too.

The connection will remain the same, it has to. The tip is L+, then R+, L-, R-. That is it, straight forward and easy to wire up. Make sure you get a nonmagnetic TRRS. They are available but many have a steel central pin for strength but that adds steel for your conductor of the L+ signal. You want nonferrous in your TRRS if possible.

Yep. Cheers Jama. I gave that info to Spkrs01 from our past PM's. thought no harm in sending him the HM-901 to just confirm when he finished making the connector - kinda belt 'n suspenders approach if you get my meaning.

Do you have a brand with the correct construction to share with us....and a linky to 'where-to-buy' would be good, too.

Thanks!
