Htc One - Page 11

For those of you that have been using the One with portable DACs, does it drain the battery much to use the phone as a USB Host? Obviously, a lot of these DACs are rechargeable and run off of their own power, but I was just wondering if going into host mode had any noticeable effect on battery life.

Not that i've noticed, it should balance out, seeing as it takes power to run the speakers or hp out anyway.

There's a huge drain when running the Fiio E10 off the OTG because it doesn't have it's own power - around 15 to 20% per hour.

Not surprising given it's meant for desktop use.

I've read this entire thread but can't see anyone using low-impedance Custom IEMs, like UM Miracle or similar.

Has anyone indeed tried the One driving CIEMs?

Runs my sleek ct6 lovely.

I'll fire them up tomorrow.

You guys sold me. I'll be going for One ;)

Offtopic question: Black or silver?

Silver every time :)

I saw One and GS4 next to each other at Best Buy. There is no way I would buy S4 -- so dang ugly with fish scales!!!

I would love to see someone (someone reputable, not GSMarena - LOL) do head-to-head comparison between One and I-9300/Wolfson or iPhone.

Haha, I could've done that Baroninkjet, but - I sold the iPhone to get the One...

The only thing I can say is that it sounds more full bodied than the Z1060 (EU variant) and has a really nice midrange warmth to it when amped...

But, there must be someone on here that has both the S3 and the One that can do a head to head...

...NZTechFreak seems prime candidate :)

Right, running them right now, my sleek ct6 are 50ohm impedance and 110db sensitivity.

First thing, plugged into the one they turn into detail monsters, they are picking out all the compression in my youtube videos, even the 1080p ones.

As for any hiss, none whatsoever though um miracle are what 16ohm, so you might pick up some there.

Seems the htc really loves ba drivers, it's breathed new life into my sleeks which i rarely used if im honest.

If impedance bothers you that much, you could buy a portable dac/amp and run it through the one, as this does support usb audio otg.

As for colours, oh has to be silver, it really stands out, black whilst nice is reportedly a fingerprint magnet.

Plus lets be honest, a black phone would get nowhere near the same attention.

Thanks for your feedback, Huxley, I appreciate it. However, when I said low impedance, I meant something that is circa 16 ohms, with possible dips (at certain freqencies) substantially below 16 ohms. The UM Miracle is a perfect example of this, as are many of the multi-driver balanced-armature custom IEMs.

Hoping to do a blind volume matched test One/S4/S3 (or Note 2) this week, also iPhone if I can borrow one from someone :)

Yeah i know, and if you read you would see i mentioned it.

My FX200's are 16ohm, and i get no detectable hiss from those, but they are dynamic drivers.

As are my phillips she 3580's which do hiss, they are of a higher sensitivity so my guess is you miracles probably will, but it shouldn't be too bad.

I forgot to ask this earlier... since the E7 is battery powered, do you notice any real change in battery life?

I've been enjoying my E11 for some time with an iPod, but would like to consider an outboard DAC/amp for the HTC One.  It's interesting to play around with my NuForce uDAC-2se and my Audioquest DragonFly, but I have to assume these wouldn't be practical for daily use, because you can't charge and play at the same time and these are bus-powered.
